Cam button use

So Mr. Ray Barton was gracious enough to return my phone call this morning. It seems that
a roller cam does indeed need a cam button to keep it in place! Wow, that hurts! I've collected
all of my brain cells, and they are in re-training mode. Sorry I got everyone in an uproar, and
now I know if I ever put a roller in my engine it'll be the right way. I stand Humbly corrected!

Takes a big man to admit when he was wrong, especially when they have had to defend their view vehemently...some will hang on to it forever.and never admit it or even apologize.
Thanks

So, while we were taking a break, I made a call to Keith Black Racing and talked to the Head of Operations.
Asked if he'd ever built a Mopar Big Block. Oh Boy! Yes, he said. About 1500 or so! O.K., so have I got a
question for you! He said that NO Big Block they have ever built had a cam button because they don't need
one. We had a lengthy conversation about the problem of misinformation, and he said he did not know how
this started. I'm not trying to bust anyone's Balls, but just trying to clear up the B.S. If any of you still don't
believe this is a true statement, please get someone of great importance to back your claim up so we can all
learn something. I've been wrong in the past, and I'm done yet!

This next guy below has backed up our claim eh?..............

So the ol' 'Operational Head' may not roll but it sure may wobble a bit.

For any engine family that doesn’t use some sort of device for positive camshaft fore/aft positioning(like the cam plate on a SBM), when using a roller camshaft, I always use a button on the front of the cam, and a thrust bearing behind the top gear.
The only type of button I trust to be able to hold up to the kinds of forward trust forces that I have seen exhibited with a roller cam is the roller type.
