Is it just me? Sometimes I feel that some of these parts in the FOR SALE thread are stolen, Certain people always have top notch stuff just sitting around. I watch what they sell and Im seeing a car being slowly disassembled. Just a thought.

Every now and then question a craigslist ad but then think the average thief would not know what it is or where it came from.

I would say most people have ended up with the stuff more for the reason - they picked it up cheaply years ago. There will be a lots of different reasons.
Stored it for years now the time is right to cash out or clear up clutter.
The car scene is really going to change in the next 20 years.
If you are never realistically never going to use the parts may as well grab the cash.

"Stolen" is probably a relative term in this instance, I suspect many have collected parts from swap meets, project cars, etc. and have had a lot of crap laying around for a long time (I know I do) and are finally trying to thin out the stash. What I mean by "stolen" is that they probably came into these parts when they were very cheap and now have significantly more value. No doubt there is a part or 2 posted here and elsewhere that wasn't acquired legitimately but there is no telling.

This pretty much sums it up. I have been into Mopars for close to 40 years. I have tons of parts that I might use some day but never have. Mostly 340 stuff as that was my first Mopar love. Still can't part with the stuff but one day I will have to since all I am doing now is 440 b-bodies.

I've kept stuff since I bought the first GTX in 1977, drawer full of '62 and '66 Imperial trim I pulled out of junk yards, when Imperials were my daily drivers in the '90s, should start cleaning it out. I'm sure a lot of us need to do the same.

"Stolen" is a strong accusation. There are lots of people on here that don't save junk so they end up with having ONLY Nice parts. I had my first car when I was 14 I collected lots for decades.. Well 30 plus years later I'd rather get them to someone who can use them.. I still find parts cheap while looking for pieces for my cars and sell those to buy the $$$ ones I need. My kids have no interest in parts for muscle cars or the cars really for that matter so I think it's more like people realizing they don't need 8 Complete '72 Road Runner grilles etc...

I've had some cool stuff over the years that I either bought new when it was cheap compared to today's prices or was a real bargain that I could make money on. Like the virgin MW intake I bought about 10 years ago for $200 (Canadian) and flipped a week later for $1200 US - which was a fair price at the time.

I am a self-confessed hoarder.....well, I only save nice stuff, or at least something that has a useful purpose for someone.

I am quite sure there are a few members here who are glad I don't just throw things out. :D

Interesting that this subject has come up right now bc I am sending a pile of E body mostly stuff down to LA for Fall Fling. Although I have 2 E bodies I figure I will never use this stuff and would rather have the money to fund my 2 B body builds. Speaking of 340 stuff, sending a pair of 340 X heads down as well bc I doubt I will ever build another 340, oh and I should send my 340 steel crank as well... Just remembered that. :)

I was working on cleaning out my stash of stuff today. Plan to post some things here in the near future. Mostly old and far from perfect. 63 and 64 Plymouth crap I kept from years ago when you could not buy anything for early b bodys. Now I see stuff re-popped in the catalogs, so my junk is probably worthless. But I need to clean out, and will offer it in case anyone wants it before I throw it out.

ALL of my junk was stolen!!!! :D Most of the stuff that I have came from cars with titles BUT.....the stuff that came from cars without titles is very very long gone lol.

I only get suspect Dave when it's a 'Vette guy slowly dissecting and selling a complete, good condition, running Mopar. :)

In my case i have a 45 Year collection of Mopar parts from my Dad, my older Brother and me. Might i add, i am the only one of us three still alive and everything was past on to me, its a bit overwelming...Selling these parts is a full time job which i already have.

As mentioned previously, many have just stored parts away for years and now have decided to sell some of the accumulation.

I know that's the case for me, I've kept every spare part I've ever had, just in case. And that covers the last 48 years since I bought my first Mopar, which I still have. The only way I differ from the others is, I'm still not selling anything yet. But I know it is inevitable that I must start cleaning out the attic storage sometime soon, not getting any younger it seems. :( That's the part that bothers me. :cursin:

Lotta stuff guys collect & will never let go of... Then things change, whether that person accepts that they'll never do anything with the parts or they pass away & someone else has to deal with their 30-40 or even 50 year collection of parts... Us older guys are starting to run out of time.... And currently prices are still up there so parts hoards are like money in the bank..... BTW I rarely sell anything....

Might I add that your Dad, brother and you had some very good taste in Mopar parts.

I buy cars that are one foot in the grave . I strip them of anything that will help someone restoring a car! I get some good stuff out of junkers !
I'm assuming your talking about higher end stuff but people do strip cars , alot complain about it but if the car is savable I myself try like hell to sell it to someone who can fix it but . Most aren't worth it that I get here. Guy I know has a ton of rare high end Mopar parts be buys anything he can everywhere makes a deal raises price and makes money (I don't agree ) but he's always selling so someone's buying the stuff
Hell he bought a pair of doors I needed for $200 I knew they were $200 tried to sell them to me at $2000 .....
