Suggestions for ease of install and fit?

Everyone will say TTI they are really nice but there are others out there. I guess it really depends on how much you plan to pay for headers. TTi are up there in price and on the lower end Summit Racing branded headers are around 200.00. Ease of installation is to install them from under the car. Do not try to install them through the top. Also you may have to crush them down a little to clear the steering box.. Yes even with brand new headers.

I'm not recommending any brand, but in defense of TTI, I've had in the past and have them now on multiple vehicles, and if ou pyrchase the correct ones for your vehicle, you will not have to crush them to fit. And yes they are pricey! And lastly, headers will need to be installed from the bottom and may require lifting the engine for install, just read the destructions! Good factory HP exhaust manifolds are plenty good for the street and less headaches. Just my 2 cents! ruffcut

My friend has these Doug stainless steel on his 69 Charger. If you decide to go through Summit, GTX John might have some discount coupons left.

I am happy w the 1 7/8 hooker headers we have on our 69 charger w power steering.
We replaced a old set and dropped them in with the engine in the car..we did have the motor mount bolts out and jacked the engine up, price has gone up since we bought them, but I would purchase them again. We also have the 2" dougs and 2 1/8 hookers super comps. We have also run cheap 1 3/4 hedmans. I haven't had a fitting issue with any of them, but headers can vary a bit..and so can our cars! 1 7/8 seems to be a nice size. Bigger gets tighter. TTI's have never been in my budget. They may make some cheap dougs?...ours 2" dougs are ceramic coated, the others we run are just painted.

If clearance to starter &/or steering box is questionable; you might try a set of tri-y's. I think Doug's used to make them. Not sure if anyone makes them anymore. Good Luck!

TTI shortys may be an option. I think the safest bet with power steering is a 1 3/4 set. From my experience it's tti or nothing.

One thing to look for for good fit is the condition of the Motor Mounts along with the Transmission Mount.
Old saggy mounts play havoc with fit when installing new headers.Even new ones may need shims some times.
Tho I'm a huge fan of TTI's, I've never had a problem with the low price headers from Jegs or Summit.
I believe they are made by the same company.

TTI fit without denting tubes although I had to use a ratchet strap to pull the driver’s side away from the torsion bar. It was really close but not touching, after tweaking it had 1/2” clearance. They fit a little better than the Hooker Super Comps that were previously on the car.

We have installed multiple sets of TTi headers, and for the most part they went in without having to dent any pipes.
The one install we had a problem, was a 68GTX, and we found that he had bad motor mounts installing good ones and the headers went rite in...

Just my $0.02...

I've done many header installs. Hooker comps 50+ years ago, same on one of my current rides today. One of the easier installs to do.

Appreciate all the input!
But, how does one know if motor mounts are bad?

When the air cleaner stud puts a dinger in the hood…

But seriously, TTI installation instructions lists the critical dimensions to determine if the engine mounts are bad. I believe the instructions are downloadable on TTI’s website.

Even if you don’t use TTI headers you can check to make sure the engine is sitting correctly in the k member.

Mopar or otherwise, the most problematic installs were due to other issues. Mounts being one of them. Back in the garage, we'd recommend new mounts during the install, since they'd be disconnected anyway, and it was a GREAT upsell. But in effect, it made our job easier.

Cracks, split, overall a saggy look. Same with transmission mount.
While connected jack the left side then the right using a block of wood on the base of the oil pan checking for stretch and or other defects. Same using a block of wood on tranny pan and inspect that mount.
Yeah,, do it with the hood open for sure..
