Hello Everyone!

I hope you all and your MOPAR’s are well. So, there I was after church today breaking bread with some old car guys and learned of a 1970 GTX U code, console automatic project that may be for sale. Of course I plan to go look at it… Anyway, the bad news… The original engine was blown up years ago, it currently has a 72 440 engine and is missing the fender tag… She has not been stored inside, so it’s gonna need a complete engine/trans rebuild, interior and lord knows what else will be required before getting her painted, etc., etc,.

My understanding is the GTX is in poor condition and the only thing that makes it worth considering is that it is a U code car. What do you all think would be a “ballpark” figure I should stick to “IF” I make an offer???

I would appreciate any advice. Have a great Sunday!

Like the old saying goes, its only worth what you're willing to pay. Lots to consider, how much would it cost for a good paint job, gotta locate a correct year motor then have it rebuilt, rebuilt trans rear end, interior. The list is endless.

You need to ask yourself how much money are You willing to dump in it.

A GTX emblem does not a GTX make.....that thing has a Road Runner grille for a starter.

All great points for me to consider. I’ll definitely be decoding the VIN first and foremost. Then the frame rails, floors, so on and so forth. I’ll keep you posted on what I discover! Thanks!

Had a RR grill in her but I love it!!!

If my first GTX ever surfaces, you could probably buy it for a lot less than it would cost to bring that project back to life. I sold the numbers matching car for $1800 in 1981, it changed hands about a decade later for $5000. Factory stripe delete car, shown here in 1977, when it still had original paint. I still have the wife.

Safe move, selling, trading, or swapping cars is one thing. The wife is another.

Sorry, I couldn't pass this up. I've had many cars, but same wife 53 years in December.

I’ve owned, bought and sold a few mopar cars in my lifetime. I rebuild motors and cars for people that can’t. What I can tell you is simple. If he PAYS you money to take the car and you restore it, you will have more in it than it’s worth. If you can do all the work, then you won’t be in upside down as bad. As far as resell or value, the missing fender tag is the bid deal. I doubt it has a build sheet and the missing matching number motor is a hit as well. Get it cheap, clean it up and flip it. If it’s been hit in the front and been raced( by looking at the hood) , you got some looking to do. The problem with trying to buy a car like this is with all the hypes at auctions, either the owner or someone who’s never rebuilt one of these cars will have the idea that “ this thing is worth a fortune”. They have no idea how much it cost to fix one of these cars. Good luck, look it over and get it cheap.
