Well I thought I would finally jump in and start my own thread. This thread will be for documenting the restoration of my 70 Roadrunner and for general Q&A's. Hopefully, this thread will live up to the outstanding work/documentation that; Hemirunner, hsorman, usaroadrunner and HYRDGOON have done with their cars.

Background - I have always been a Mopar guy; something my father instilled in me early on in life with stories of my grandfather's 68 Charger R/T. Grandpa wanted to pop for the Hemi but the salesman talked him out of it highlighting the short warranty and maintenance costs; so Grandpa settled for the 440. I was looking for a decent car around 7 or 8 years ago, but couldn't afford it. Instead I found an eBay lisitng for this 1970 Roadrunner from Oregon and jumped on it. I was living in Illinois at the time and didn't think much about shipping cost, which doubled what I paid for the car. As you can see from these pictures, and why I've named the car "Lazarus", I'll be bringing it back from the dead (or in this case sea salt air).

Someone beat the snot out of this car and painted it several different colors. If you look real close at the picture of the back end, there is some good 'ol redneck ingenuity as a plate was welded across the bumper so a ball hitch could be attached.

The car left the factory as a 383 4-speed bench seat car. Dark green metallic exterior and dark green interior. Not much of the original car is left. I know this is not a project for everyone, and it is going to suck the bank account dry, but it's the car I've always wanted to build.

Speaking of the build, I've looked at quite a few around the Member's Projects & Restorations Forum and you guys are doing amazing work. This build won't be an all out race car and unfortunately it won't have a monster twin turbo Hemi (I can dream though right?). This build is going to lean more towards the resto-mod type. I've always liked the looks of the late 60's and early 70's musclecars so there won't be any exterior body modifications. Chip Foose, I am not. And that's not a crack at Chip, it's just that my talent level isn't that good and I don't think there is another car from the era that has the lines or bold styling of a B-body Mopar. Now the build will have some upgrades/updates; sub frame connectors, chassis stiffening, suspension modifications, steering modifications, possibly a 5 speed (if Passon get's there sh** together) and a mildly built 440-6.

I look forward to putting in a ton of hours resurrecting this car, along with a small pile of cash, and bouncing ideas or needed parts help off of you guys.

Those pics kinda Suck. Post some better ones please. Looks like a good project.

Sorry, cell phone pictures were not that great 8 years ago - and the snow that was coming down didn't help any either. Here are a few more recent pics.

Mmm..... Nope!
A ton of hours and a ton of cash. Congrats on your purchase!

The small pile of cash is filled with 100 dollar bills :D I am well aware that this restoration will not be cheap. I've looked at completed cars and even better project cars as a starting point and always came back to this car, basically because at the end of the day I will know exactly how this car will be built.

Well your in the right place for learning. There are a lot of smart guys on here that have been doing this for a while and willing to help as well as a for sale section for parts you may need. Congrats again!

Looks like your going to have your hands full for awhile! Good luck with the project. Now lets get to work!

Congrats and good luck. I love '70's! You want to sell those Oregon plates?

I am not sure what you are worried about. That will buff right out! :)

They say if you put this product all over your car, it will match the paint and be a perfect fit.

Seriously, Love the car and good luck with your build! She is going to be nice once she gets back on the road.

That is a great Mopar to save and looks like it will be in good hands. I have always seen restorations as bringing dead cars back to life so other can enjoy it. And I take pride in knowing that someone else down the road can enjoy what I have done long after I am gone.

Nice project, I'll be following along.
That recolor product should work just fine, your car will be good as new in no time.

So, all my photos were wiped from Photobucket and I can't seem to edit the original posts with new links. Anybody know how to fix this? I've made some progress over the last few months and have several updates.

Thanks threewood! The above photos are what I started with. Other than vacuuming out some rust and dirt that had collected in the trunk and on the floor pans, this is what has been sitting in my garage for the last 8 years or so.

I started at the rear, knowing that the the trunk floor and quarter panels would need to replaced. After removing the passenger side quarter panel, I realized that the whole car would need to be blasted to remove the rust and several coats of primer and paint that have been put on over the years. I removed the tail panel and the drivers side quarter panel.

I didn't think the trunk floor was as bad as it was, until I removed the gas tank. The rust and dirt had blended across the top of the gas tank, which I thought was actually the trunk floor. Ha!

I didn't get a picture without the quarter panel but these 2 show it's been cut out - I left about a 1 inch section at the door pillar to line up the door after the door skin is replaced and the hinges are rebuilt.
