1971 340 Road Runner Revival

Finally finished up and mounted the brackets I made to support the car while I have the K frame out. Also got first torsion bar adjustment bolt busted loose…50 years of crud made it stubborn. Need to fab a torsion bar clamp to beat the bars out next…

Fabricated a clamp to hammer the torsion bars out. Didn’t take much hammering at all once I got the clamp firmly mounted.

Rewarded with some still viable grease in the sockets and the original Aluminum marking paint for the correct torsion bars. Pretty cool.

Spent a little bit of time tearing down the K frame and suspension yesterday. What a mess! Side note: The little $20 ball joint press from Harbor Freight worked great on not only the ball joints, but the tie rod ends as well.

Nice work.

I think too often suspensions are overlooked and nice looking cars end up handling like crap. All new front suspension components, set up properly, will do wonders for the car!

Finally had time to tackle the LCA pivot shaft bushing outer sleeves. Tried the welded washer trick but ended up scoring and chiseling instead. My crappy welds didn’t hold.

Victory! Rebuild kit is coming tomorrow.

Got the K frame cleaned up and took it to get blasted and powder coated.

Tonight I pulled the spindles out of the degreaser soak. Big mess that was!

Slow going this year, but making some progress. Starting to reassemble the front suspension.

Easier to find the time to work on them in the winter I find.

Same. Summer seems to be full of lawn, pool, and home improvement chores as well as other activities…not to mention it’s usually too damn hot to move LOL.
