2014 4th Annual FABO NHRA "Pick 'Em" Game - Make Your Picks and Light 'Em Up!

Congrats to alsant (FBBO) for winning the Top Qualifier title at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Norwalk, OH, with a very nice total of 30.0 bonus points - just 2.0 points from perfection. aslant picked the #1 qualifier in Top Fuel, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle, and the #3 qualifier in Funny Car.
bad440 (FABO) and 6pk2goDemon (FABO) are both right behind with 29.5 bonus points each.
Way to go all!

This week players picked:
* 6 different Top Fuel drivers. Their is a possibility of three head-to-head matchups is in Round 2 of eliminations.
* 8 different Funny Car drivers with two Round 1 head-to-head matchups. One between Ron Capps (4 picks) and Courtney Force (4 picks), and one between John Force (4 picks) and Tim Wilkerson (1 pick). There is also a potential of 2 head-to-head matchups in Round 2 of eliminations.
* 5 different Pro Stock drivers but no Round 1 head-to-head matchups. There is a possibility of 2 head-to-head matchups in the 2nd round of eliminations.
* 6 different Pro Stock Motorcycle riders and, again, no head-to-head matchups in Round 1 of eliminations, but the possibility of 2 head-to-head matchups in Round 2.

Unfortunately
I only had 1 winner T/F Antron Brown
John Force won F/C, my guy TJ jr went out in semis IIRC, I almost picked Capps instead, oh well
Erica Enders won P/S, my guy Jeggy went out 2nd rd IIRC, almost picked AJ instead too, oh well
Andrew Hines won P/SM, my guy Kraweic went our in the semis

Always drama in P/SM, like a soap opera
It seems NHRA preference is the Harley/Hines teams have the rules advantage yet again
How I understand the gripe, {less intake scoop area & fairings, for far less aero-drag, so they could actually compete with the Buell's, other make & teams are all complaining, because they have the huge intake scoops still & fairings, that are big aerodynamic disadvantages, "acts like parachutes" one rider said}
& Harley probably will be dominant again, because of the favorable rules change "yet again"

Suzuki like normal, is getting screwed, Buell has a chance still at-least because of the 60ci larger engines, than the Suzuki's inline 4's, that were penalized by taking away 2 valve per cylinder last season, that was the only way they could compete, with the much larger engines {60% larger engines & less ballast/weight added} of the Harleys & Buell's....

Time to add weight to the Harleys again &/or take weight from the others or give the other teams the same Aero advantages at-least...

Lots of movement this week and the points are really tightening up.
Congratulations to 'socaldart' for being "Top Picker Eliminator" for the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals with an outstanding point total of 154.0 even with his Funny Car pick going out in the opening round of eliminations. He picked the class winners in Top Fuel, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle.
'alsant' (FBBO) came in as the event runner-up with a very nice point total of 145.0 with class wins in both Top Fuel and Pro Stock. His Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle picks both went one round of eliminations.
Great picking all!

The Route 66 Nationals were the last of four consecutive weekends of racing so now we get one weekend off for some of us to lick our wounds. The next event is the 35th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals, July 18-20, at Bandimere Speedway up on the mountain just outside of Morrison, CO - the opening event of the 3-in-a-row Western Swing.
Let's see how the crewchiefs like going directly from the 719' altitude of Norwalk, OH, 17 miles south of Lake Erie to over a mile high at 5860' altitude and the dry air of Colorado.
As always, your picks need to be posted before Pro Qualifying starts on Friday, July 18 in order to qualify for all event bonus points. Pro qualifying is scheduled to start at 6:45PM EDT (3:45 PM PDT).
The Mopar Mile-High Nationals entry list is posted on NHRA.com and currently shows 17 Top Fuel, 17 Funny Car, 18 Pro Stock and only 12 Pro Stock Motorcycle entries, but the counts are subject to change. Keep checking http://www.nhra.com/events/entrylist14.aspx for an updated entry list.

Only five more events until the points get adjusted after the U.S. Nationals!

Get your picks posted and GOOD LUCK!

Help I've fallen and I can get up....

Good job alsant, Bel, for moving up!

Announcement on NHRA.com says, "NHRA legend and Hall of Famer 'Big Jim' Dunn will undergo surgery for colon cancer next week. As a result, the Jim Dunn Racing team and Grime Boss Funny Car will not compete in NHRA’s Western Swing.
The Grime Boss Funny Car will rejoin the tour at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Aug. 14-17"

Best wishes for a successful surgery and quick recovery!

I read that the other day too... in a newsletter
I hope he get's all the cancer taken care of/removed,
they said they caught it early, good chance of full recovery,
he's like 72 y/o IIRC...
No small feet at that age, for anyone, good health or not...

I wish him "Get Well Soon" Jim, he will be missed, in the meantime...

Yeah,
Right on Budniks...
That damn colon Cancer is truly a hidden danger.
I had a Colonoscopy 2 yrs ago.
Everybody need one.
Big Jim Dunn, a living legend.

Having one next week , don't want to but it's better to be proactive than wait till it's too late.

It's not too bad, alsant. I had mine 2 years ago. Good for 10 more years (I guess 8, now).

Thanks for the encouragement all I say is Atleast they put you out for it.

Here's your Tuesday-before-the-event reminder before the 14th race of the 24-race 2014 season. Only 10 more races left after the Mopar Mile-High Nationals. Where's the season gone to?

The 35th Annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals, July 18-20, at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, CO.
This is the first of the three-events-in-a-row Western Swing and the 5860' elevation at Bandimere makes it tough for the normally aspirated Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle entries to breathe. As always, your picks need to be posted before Pro Qualifying starts on Friday, July 18 in order to qualify for all event bonus points. Pro qualifying is scheduled to start at 2:45PM EDT (5:45PM PDT).
The current weather forecast is for upper 80s through the weekend with a 20% possibility of scattered thunderstorms on Saturday.
The Mopar Mile-High Nationals entry list is posted on http://www.nhra.com/events/entrylist14.aspx and now shows 17 Top Fuel, 16 Funny Car, 16 Pro Stock and 19 Pro Stock Motorcycle entries, but the counts are still subject to change.
