Old Bob wasn't quite telling the whole story in that interview. He said whatever Wilson manifolds did when they flowed the manifolds changed their color. Come to find out they blasted the finish off of the manifolds which is a definite alteration of the manifold. I wonder how much this is going to cost him (NHRA fine), and how many points he will lose. Now he's got to buy all new manifolds to replace however many they took.
He knew they improved the manifolds flow too
he claimed it was after repairs,
it probably was repairs from coughing blowers right & left, cracks etc.
but they can improve the manifold too while, they in there
roughness or coating or wtf-ever
The thing is though, the truth
the manifold port runners are so damn short
anything in that area is lil' to no help at 8,500rpm
'they are electronically limited to now'
now if they could still run 10,000+rpm, it's make a big difference
I'll bet, that the improvement was somewhere else inside the manifold,
& they ain't talking, telling the whole story, NHRA
or Bob Taska III telling why they ran so well...
Strange part is they did as well with the Torrence barrowed manifold too
so maybe they (team Torrence) have the same deal/mods previously done,
just still has the coating on it, not blasted for welding repairs
The old adage in racing is still, you ain't trying
if you ain't cheating or trying to cheat,
stretch the rules or vaguely written value 'of the rules', a lil'
it's so much a spec class now
nobody stands out above the rest
except maybe Jimmy Prock, Austin Prock's JFR CC & daddy
Dale Armstrong Kenny Bernstein's long time Crew Chief
& Austin Coil with & before working for John Force also,
were notorious for that types of stuff, stretch the meaning or interpretation
of the "rules", if there's a grey area they would exploit it
or make you look somewhere else with a 'green towel' laid over something
redirection of your eyes, stuff they were doing wasn't under that towel...
