I guess we should ask more specific questions & get more specific & detailed specs from the original posters, of what could be contributing to their problems, all that would help to diagnose problems much easier... With out all the appropriate or pertinent information, we are all just guessing anyway, maybe an educated guess but, still just a guess... many on here probably think I go overboard already, oh well... The retarded timing was definitely your heat source and the noise you heard was detonation. You could have beaten the bearings out, pinched the rings by hammering the lands and ruined the bores or it could be fine..........
