440 through manifolds, 2.5" or 3.0" exhaust?

One consideration is how the exhaust is bent. I think a 2-1/2" mandrel bent system would flow as well or better than a 3" clamp bent system.
On the Charger I went from a 3-1/2" exhaust shop bent exhaust with race bullet mufflers exiting under the car before the axle to the 3" TTI mandrel bent full exhaust system with the super turbo mufflers and I didn't notice any loss in performance at the track, but the car is much quieter.

All I can say is you're not living up to your screename.
I'm getting older... The screen name is the license plate on my green vert... When I got the plate it was on my lime green R/T SE U code Challenger... Big nasty cam, dropped in the weeds Centerline Champ 500's.. That car was pretty wild when I first built it... Since that's what I had in mind as a twenty something... But since I'm the guy that even in my late 20's I drove that car everywhere after I got it on the road I started making it somewhat mild... Smaller cam, raised the car 1.5"...

Since it's not a race car, I would install what you have and save a few pennies. Git 'er done. The 3 inch pipes are not going to kill off street performance. As far as how looks and fits.... that is a matter of the quality of installation, not +1/2 inch pipe size.

Just in the planning stage right now, putting together my 68 Coronet R/T vert.... I have parts I could use but not sure it's the right choice...
15 years ago I bought a full 3.0" TTI system including 2.0" tube headers and the tips from a man who overextended himself..

I also have 2.5" tips and 2.5" ultraflow mufflers should I decide to go that direction... I'd collected that prior to scoring the TTI stuff...

The car isn't gonna be much of a hotrod, well... It'll be a 440, 240 @ .050 cam, ported 915's, light pistons... Good parts, but it's a vert, it won't see track time... It'll be running a 727, 3.23 gears and a 29" tire...

I fully intend to run manifolds, I could buy TTI 3.0" head pipes & run the 3.0" system.... Or I could do a 2.5" system which I think is probably a better match for the car.. Kinda concerned about the ground clearance and clearance with 3" exhaust around the torsion bars & axle....

Anybody care to tell me which way I should go & why?
I put 3” under my 68 GTX with Hooker headers! The tips can with the exhaust! The fit was remarkable! The sound outstanding but it all depends on what you put into the motor!

I’m using 2 1/2” with manifolds. 11.20s @ 121+ mph. 3.23 gear.

the 2 1/2” pipes just doesn’t seem to hurt power much. Probably less because you going with a cam for manifolds.

Our 64 Dodge 440, which has a truck block 440 in it has manifolds, 2.5 front and 3" tail pipes. *** backwards AFAIK, but it's the quietest car in the fleet even when getting right into it. Best shot I could find prior to the new rear axle going in and underside cleanup.

I'm leaning toward selling the 3" system complete, headers to tips & buying 2.5" TTI pipes from the manifolds to the mufflers, use the mufflers & tips I already have with 2.5" TTI over axle pipes..

I think the complete system as a package is probably gonna be easier to sell rather than using what I need & trying to sell just the leftovers... I also feel the car is gonna be to stock appearing to support the need for 3" exhaust...

Ray evernham said to step the exhaust bigger as you go…

I think the manifolds will reduce any benefits of the 3" exhaust. So why deal with the additional headaches of fitting it under the car?

I say go 2.5"

That's moving out! What are your engine specs? I'm putting together a 440 for my 66 Charger, with parts I've collected over the last few years, and really don't feel like putting headers on it. I have a stack of cams and several intakes. Trying to decide what I should use.

I buy U-bends-aluminized-and cut the bends I need along with aluminized 10' lengths of straight pipe at a local muffler shop.
