Hello, I have a 1968 January production 383 Roadrunner, original 4 speed according to fender tag. I'm still a bit confused as I've read some eng/trans combos match a shipping number on fender tag and some don't in '68, is there any confirmation of this without having a built sheet?
My 383 and A833 both have a matching number so they originally came together, the trans side stamp and the blocks stamp by oil sender.
The # on the trans pass stamp and block lip by oil sender is -A143712-.

The fender tag is as shown, is there any way to figure out whether the set-up is original.. I have no build sheet

Other question would be, what else in 1968 came with a 383/A833 set up that it could have came from?
Any other numbers worth checking on the actual block for? Not just bolt-on casting #'s i mean.

Thanks for any help or input!
P.S. my vin # neither relates or matches either of these. But I've read that they normally dont pre-69.

the only #s to check on the block and trans are the vin #,
besides the above the vin only shows up on the dash, broadcast sheet, window sticker and if the car had a certicard

the vin doesn't appear on the fender tag, but the fender tag should match your body #s

Same question = same answer: http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?100257-383-4-speed-1968-I-D.

IF the engine and transmission are stamped, then they will match the VIN number, not the SO number on the tag.

The combination in your car does not match your car's VIN therefore they have been replaced. They came from an earlier built B body built at the Lynch Road plant.

IF the pad on the front of the block is stamped HP, then it they probably came from a Road Runner (off the top of my head...the only possibility of a 383HP that early at LR. October would be too early for Super Bees...)

IF the pad is not stamped HP, then the combination could have still come from a RR but the A/C components removed or a 68 Satellite/Coronet 383-four speed combination.

'68 LR only built Coronet or Satellite based B bodies so it has to have come from a model in that line up.

Alright, thanks guys. '68 seems such an offbeat year with the transition, so naturally everything i'd read prior had been conflicting to each other.
