71/72 Quarter Panel patch on 73?

I am wondering if the front 1/4 patch for a 71/72 would work on my 73 if I cut the top body line off? The guy doing the car seemed to think he could make it work but when I called Auto Body Specialties they said that they get a lot of returns from people trying the same thing..

I just used those panels on both sides of my 73. After triming the top about 2 inches,the fit was excellent around the door jam and the bottom. The wheel well has a different profile and will have to be reworked to blend with the 73 profile, but they told me about that before I ordered them, so no suprises. Any panel for a 73 is good.
