The time has come to rebuild the big block 727 trans that is installed in my street/strip 69 roadrunner as it is now slipping badly. Based on e.t. computations the engine is producing 434 hp at the rear wheels and a little over 600 hp with the 175 hp shot of nitrous oxide. I have a PTC 9.5 inch convertor that flashes at 3500 rpm. I'm not exactly sure what performance parts are in the transmission now but I would like a stronger, more durable build. I would love to get your recommendations of performance components for this 727 to perform without any future falilures. I do know that it has a cheetah valve body and would you recommend replacing it too? Thanks!

Come on, is everyone running powerglides?

Not a tranny man so I called Rick at A&A Transmission when I needed to upgrade. He has the parts you need! Check out the website.

I would suggest buying the book "Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook" by Carl Monroe, HP Books-1399, it will have everything you need to know in it, read it first..... I would start with a Torqueflite knowledgeable quality transmission builder, not just the local yokal, it's not a build for the beginner, then I would highly suggest buying a bolt in super-sprag {overrunning clutch} so it won't explode downshifting or doing burnouts, a deep cool pan, the proper Type 3 or 4 fluid, there's nothing wrong with the Turbo Action's Cheetah manual valve bodies, get quality not some cheapo aftermarket parts, input & output shafts, lightened yoke & drum, red bands & clutches/metals, depending on what you actually want & what your budget is, maybe different planetary gear/ratios & stronger materials are also a good idea, a torque converter with anti-ballooning plates, all new seals, Coan Racing Transmissions, A&A Racing Trans, Phoenix Racing Trans, Mancini Racing, Campbell Enterprises, Turbo Action Trans, B&M Racing Trans, Grinner Engineering, Mike's Transmissions in SoCal, are all good sources & products...

I now have the book on the way and I will check out the web site. Thank you both!!!!

Your welcome

i would recommend getting rid of that old technology cheetah valve body, and replace it with a new piece from griner .... much better !!! very positive and snappy upshift / downshifts .... a noticeble difference when i changed from my cheetah ...
