Anyone else despise searching for parts on eBay these days?

I look for parts in the winter on eBay to see what's out there and to see what stuff is selling for. Lately I have to go through hundreds of parts/items before I see a single one that actually MAY fit my cars. This below is what lots of sellers are doing in all of their ads. I reported one guy because he filled the first page with his chevy parts in my search. I emailed him asking if his chevy part would fit my Road Runner... He was a wise *** about it and told me after I said about his spam ads that maybe I should search for Road Runner junk. It would be great if they pulled his 13,000 auctions but sadly they will do nothing. It's time wasting and frustrating. So if you use it how are you navigating through it?

Most big sellers have become spammers with all the 'key words' they use.

I get sick of seeing Parts-Store junk being tagged into Classic restoration type parts when searching.

I used to find good deals on used parts, mostly trim pieces, from small/private sellers. Now there's too much spam to wade through or sellers who think this stuff is made from gold so I rarely bother to look unless I really need something that I can't find elsewhere.

I stopped even looking being in canada usually the shipping and duty negates any deal! I ordered some door trim pieces from LMC for my dually and they cost me double than going to the dealer and buying O.E. {live and learn}
although once i ordered an NV4500 case from michigan for one of my sons trucks and it arrived in a wooden crate for $50 shipping ,not sure how that happened! I gave him a mercruiser big block for his blazer and he split the original case right in half shifting it like john force!

I've made about a hundred purchases in the last 7 months on ebay, two for my car and the rest for my diorama. The harder life gets, the more crap and more expensive it gets. Some people are getting more aggressive with their selling technique, I walk on by, my money's green anywhere. It's screwed up, try Craiglist, you can buy a bag of used air in a Kroger bag...... Given an opportunity, someone will screw up a good thing in many ways.

They are still touting this with current commercials.

I add -fits to all my automotive searches.
It does weed out some items that actually do fit, but it also weeds out 35 pages of antenna topers and another 35 of window tint, etc, etc.

the only purchases I make on fleabay are usually hard to find parts, nos stuff, that I can't find on marketplace or forum members, and research their part before buying by comparing actual nos pics from somewhere. Most aftermarket stuff i can usually find from the items actual website if they have more than one presence. Contact seller before purchase asking if part fits application and if they guarantee return if incorrect, or I don't buy. It's a process, but better than getting the wrong part.

Absolutely. Many moons ago, I did a lot of buying/selling. Nowadays, if I go look up for a part, I get loads of unrelated stuff for loads of unrelated cars. Why should one get littered with all that crap ?

I've bought a ton of car parts from them over the years, and yes things have changed and not for the better. To be fair, I really don't buy many car parts anymore, two this year and it was small stuff. There is no secret, search and sift through the BS and get it done. I'm down to my train crap, fingernail polish for my wife and miscellaneous stuff that's just easier to get from them. Shipping is a killer from them and that's getting to be a turn off. For my train crap, in search, I type in my request and see what pops up. when I see things I'm interested in, I go down to where it says, see all. hit it and keep moving. For my stuff it's a little bit easier. I'm not a person that can tolerate to much BS and looking for car parts for a 65 Coronet on ebay is a joke. The secret to ebay, when they piss me off I move on. Hungry people are destroying most things for the rest of us. I'm done with working on cars, now I just drive the one I have and if it pisses me off to much, it gets pass on to a friend to work with. That will carry me through to the day I give it away. That my secret, sorry, I know that wasn't any help.

It's $ucked for last 5 years, hardly go on anymore. Ironically I went on a few month ago and found a NOS 66 Bel/Sat right tail light bezel at a reasonable price,$200. Most of the time it comes with a lens $500. Bought it, been looking for this deal for a long time.

Unfortunately, the only thing that's going to change eBay is a class action lawsuit.

A case can be made that the buyers who don't wade through all the nonsense don't see the correct part for sale, and that seller loses the sale. Their user agreement says sellers have to go through arbitration, but that's not realistic because how do you go to court and prove you lost a sale, even though common sense proves it? Of course buyers give up, because we have all given up on an eBay search.

All I can say is I'm super glad that I acquired most of my '70 Charger parts on eBay over a decade ago, gathered up pretty much everything I needed for a future restoration when the CanuckBuck was almost on par with the USD, and when eBay shipping wasn't a bend-over-and-rape-me session. It's a good thing I let my car languish in the garage for 15+ years before getting body & paint done because nowadays, there's no way in hell I could afford the resto/reassembly.

I very rarely buy stuff on eBay anymore, it's just too cost-prohibitive.

Now that I no longer have a ride, I do not search for parts, so I haven't been affected by the scams. Hell...I cannot get anyone to buy my drastically reduced 66/67 B Body parts, as they are just collecting dust at this point. When I do get a nibble, they want this or that and want to haggle on the price and shipping, so I just quit placing any ads there. My leftover parts are, as I stated, specific to those model years, as my 66 Ply Satellit had the same parts as the 67 did in many places, so they most likely will not work for other years. I do use the bag for other purchases, non-auto related, for my other hobbies and interests, so that is the extent of my eBay usage these days...cr8crshr/Bill

Agreed. Unfortunately Ebay Marketplace is still on the search effort. In today's world, no source can be overlooked. I do scans for opportunities whether or not I'm looking for specific parts.

To win? You should be prepared to pounce on opportunities. Ebay can still cough one up every once in awhile. Craigslist is all but dead. But still add that platform as well when hunting.
