Biggest wheel/tire combo under a 68 Charger?

Hi all,

Got a 68 Charger I'm just about finished up with. Last piece is the rear-end and I'm looking at wheels and the biggest ET Slick on a 15" wheel possible.

Does anyone know if a 28x10 on a 15'' wheel will fit under there? What's the biggest tire you've put under your 68 Charger? No tub modifications have been made, just put disc brakes on it.

Also found a video that advertises a tire/wheel simulator. Looks like an arm off a flange that mounts to the rotor, literally measures everything from offset to backspace. Anyone have any of these for sale or know where I could find one?

I believe the Charger wheel wells are very similar to the Coronet/SuperBee. I’m running 15x10’s with 5.5 bs and a 295/50R15 tire. My tire is 26.5 tall with a 12” section width and 10” tread width. My car is lowered 1” with a block. No rubbing unless under hard cornering loads, then the inside edge rubs the wheel house. I did add a 1/4 billet spacer since I track my car and had a slight rub in the corners. I wouldn’t be too concerned about what you’re trying to fit. Here’s a link to my build.

I've got a 10.5x28 slick on a 62 savoy, and I KNOW the charger wheelhouse is bigger. Same tire/wheel combo fits easily on my 69 rr.
Just get the backspace right, should be no problem at all .

5.5" backspace is the magic number for the larger tires. I run a 275/60/15 with a 4.5" backspace rim and it works fine.

Ive run 295/50-15.

But be aware like mentioned they can rub while cornering, add a big bump/dip while cornering at high speed can rub hard enough to throw you sideways.

I run 15" P295/50/15s Radial T/A on a 68 RR on the rear
appr. 28" tall 12+" girth
no rubbing issues ever (P245/60/25 front)
most B-bodies 1968-70 can fit a lot of tire

IIRC I had N50/15s (Biasply) 29"x11" Tread, appr. 12.5" girth
on my old 68 Charger
on 10" Crager S/S with IIRC 5.5" BS, way back when

I have ran 315/60/15 M/T Sportsman Drag Radials on my old 68
near 30" (29.?) diameter on a 15x9" wide wheel 5.25" BS
no rubbing ever

ride height can make a huge difference too
if it's lower you could have clearance problems
with the upper outer (inside) portions
of the inner rear wheel-wells/tubs
IMO with a stock tub, the biggest issues are the hump in the
'top outside portions" of the inner wheel wells
But;
the right wheel offset/BS is critical

295/50's are 26.5" tall. You must be thinking about 275/60's, they are 28" tall.

You can ask what others have done, and we will help as best we can, but..... our BEST advice is to do your own measuring. These old mopars vary, and we don't know what has been done to your car, or how it sits (stance). All that stuff affects what fits.
If you have a fairly large tire on it now that fits, you can use it to gauge how much more you can add, and what backspace you need. And Budnicks is ABSOLUTELY right, getting the backspace right is CRITICAL. If the wheel is in the right place, that is the first step to getting the most tire under the car.
Find out what backspace you need, (the disc's on the back will have an effect) find a wheel you like with that backspace, then decide how much tire you can put on it.

I had 15x10 4 7/8 BS, with 325 50 15 MT Drag Radial, rolled outer wheel well, only rubbed on the hump that in made into the outer well when hitting a large bump, caused no damage or marks on the tire, also when turning into my sharp,steep drive way it would just touch the inner wheel house, put a rear sway bar on it & that cured that, now have 390 45 15 M&H , only hits on a large bump, still NO tire damage, this is the 325 50 15 , the bottom is the 390 .

Halibrands/knockoffs wheels from Edelbrock, back sometime before 2005 (?)
the rears rims/wheels, they are/were advertised as
15"x9.5" (IIRC advert. as 4.75" BS, it's more like 5") 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern
(outside to outside edges, they are close to the advert. 9.5")
but where the tire bead sits is actually more like 8.5" max (IIRC)
really thick rim/edges
