I don't believe the 340 B Body was available in September of 1970 when the 1971 models arrived at the dealerships. Anyone have any documentation/advertising to show when the 340 option became known/available? By when I mean what date (at least month/year).

I do remember seeing a window sticker once and it may have included a surcharge for choosing the 340 over the 383. Thank you.

1971 was the first year for the B body 340, due to insurance reasons. The 383 was detuned that year for the same reason.

Earliest I have in the registry for all build plants is 1st week of November 70

I wish I had pictures. '71 with 340 automatic, headers, Thrush mufflers and pipes that came out ahead of the back tires. I would drop it into second gear coming down a hill and it would shoot a 3 foot flame out the exhaust. That was late 70's.
