Blade's Ego thread: Sculpture, Cars & Airplanes

Jimi,
What is an aircraft like that worth today?
(N6044S)
100-140K, depending on avionics...its a 1976 58P...a millenial 58P is a roughly 1/2 M + airplane. P is pressurized,,,a straight millenial 58 is about 300K...Roughly....avionics widely determine the numbers

The Boyz @ Gulfstream paint facility..all had very nice things to say about 604....wish i had before pic....a major contrast...paint was chalk, windows were cloudy.....i hit many points of this bird..including doing door jambs & frames in semigloss black...look at the leading edge of vertical...thats a rubber de-ice boot, not gloss black paint...this is termed a 'known ice' aircraft....the props are 'hot' electrically heated versus alchohol, ice disolving. Paint is a buff back, not a repaint, which on a plane with thousands of round rivet heads, to get an even finish without burning all the paint off rivet heads, is an arduous undertaking. Wish i had taken a library of photos of 604, unfortunately i wasnt thinking far enough ahead.

When I hit the lottery, I'll get myself one of these....

Any idea how the Maule with the 450 hp turboprop takes off? I know the factory specs say 200 foot roll, but has anyone modded it to jump up?

Keeping on topic, I got a call from my friend Duane Zantop this morning (on a totally unrelated issue to aviation).

I thought about this thread and the aviation buffs who follow this type of stuff. Personally I'm not a plane guy.

Duane worked for his Father's company all his life - Zantop International Airlines, based out of Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti Michigan until it closed.

Duane is a good buddy, and knows tons about old planes and aviation stuff from the past - since he's been around it all of his life. He lives in my hometown of Plymouth, Michigan. and still flies (mostly to his home in Florida and his place in Canada).

If you guys want his email, just PM me and I'll share it with you. He loves to talk and he's a really neat guy.

Tuffy,
I'' BET you he knows Connie Kalitta
That is how he started, Kalitta Air services
Conrad "Connie" Kalitta (born February 24, 1938, in Michigan) is the CEO of Kalitta Air and a retired American drag racing driver, once known as "The Bounty Hunter". He is also the owner of Kalitta Motorsports.[1]

Kalitta grew up in Mount Clemens, Michigan, and was a 1957 graduate of Mount Clemens High School.

He raced from the 1950s through the 1990s. He was the first driver to hit 200 mph in an NHRA sanctioned event. He also helped Shirley Muldowney get started (in the "Bounty Huntress" car). Kalitta won 10 NHRA national events between 1967 and 1994. Kalitta has won the U.S. Nationals in 1994 after losing in two prior finals to Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney. He defeated Eddie Hill in the final round.

Kalitta was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1992. On the 2001 National Hot Rod Association Top 50 Drivers, 1951-2000, Kalitta was ranked #21.[2] He was played by Beau Bridges in the Muldowney biography film Heart Like a Wheel.

He is the father of racer Scott Kalitta, killed in a fiery crash in Old Bridge Township, N.J.[3][4] in 2008, and uncle of racer Doug Kalitta. His step-daughter is Commander Shanti Sethi of the United States Navy, former commander of the USS Decatur (DDG-73).[5][6]

Sorry I never knew Connie or his sons. But Duane knows them well I'm sure...

Btw, Shirley Muldowney was also from the Metro Detroit area and knew Connie Kalitta very well....(actually very well). But I won't get into that nonsense.

Most people claim Kalitta was responsible for Shirley's start in drag racing. Some also say he was funding her, even though they were fierce competitors.

That's an issue for the history books. I have no idea..... I wasn't there!

This was Connie Kallita's Bird....a conversion by Hamilton, in 1975,,i worked on this airplane,, when being converted
...not a lot, minor. it is a D-18 Twin Beech..stretched 9 feet split evenly fore & aft of wing main spar...beefed wing spar,,cabin raised 9", Garret DASH, 10 turbines,, double cargo doors with inset...built for Kallita....

Any idea how the Maule with the 450 hp turboprop takes off? I know the factory specs say 200 foot roll, but has anyone modded it to jump up?
Dont know, but i fueled one on pontoons once...cub on major steroids.
The C & D-18 Twin Beeches converted @ Hamilton..called Westwind ll, the bulk got the same basic Pratt & Whitney PT-6 gas turbine & they were 450 SHP units, as on the Maule You bring up,....shaftless...prop is gas driven....made in wide SHP range of variants....cover many applications in aircraft.

Even better...

Ive not a clue but this is sexy......ive never seen a boat or pontoon bird with anything but High Wing configuaration....this would be considered mid wing. What is it....got any specs? I think those are MT composite props,,30 or 40K a pop.....size engines...? Im guess injected/overhead(IO) sixes. if those are IO-470/ 520, 0r 550..probably over 200 knot cruise. Guessing six place

Even better... English design,Russian mfg. Beriev Be-103...props are MT-12 full reverse...you bet they're @ least 40K a pop....motors are Continental IO-360....4 cyl, opposed....cruise is 150 mph...ceiling of 16K feet. Is aluminum & titanium, certified in USA...is a 6 place. 1.5 M USD have been certified Part 91 and available on US market since 03. 1st flight was 7/15/97, a roughly 1200 lb useful load...split that between Fuel, passengers & baggage. Wings are 'WET' with fuel...no bladders...wing is cell Nice find RC....very interesting wing with integrated aqua-planing pads....steps up out of water like a hydro plane

Crazee...those pix are on the ramp @ LGB...the interior was done by a Guy named George....ad sez Cimmaron in OK City did paint in 2005...impossible...i buffed the Bird in 04...those pix our our photos on our ramp, i do remember Cimarron's logo sticker where they always place them...on fuselage under horizontal stabilizer....but it was painted some time well before 2005....it was dead chalk with oxidization.....the maroon was a bitch to get back & make it stay without dying back immediately, had to buff a lot of oil back into it because it had been dried out by dead soap film. See How sharp & clear my windows are? Thanks for coming up with some close ups Photon...604 is one of my favorite jobs...as i said, Gulfstream Boyz liked Her too

In my albums i have more shots of this airplane. Mike's listings end up in the A/C Market Place pool. Ny android svc. is off right now, but when i put it back on, ill take phone pix of the album pictures. I remember well, because i was blocking the windshield, with a major headache brewing, X-Mas Day 2004. Also, Mike did a prop strike on a blue taxi light ....all He caught was the thick blue glass lense..it NFG'd all 3 blades on left prop, which Paul @ Aero Prop found replacements & did a fresh overhaul. I carried one of the NFG blades around for 7 yrs(not real attractive) until i cut it up into Crucifix as Memorial to My DanaToo, in May, 2011. December 95 - April 3, 2010. The Tip ended as the foot for the Chalice (the Y piece) after taking two 1/4" slices to carve these earrings. The tip on the inlayed Monk's Box is the same style blade, from a different prop strike
