Borgeson Update

Hadn't considered that.. the filter supposedly can handle a constant 200psi... i can't see the return being near that since it's just a open line into the pump pretty much.. but never know. So far no issues, will see what the future holds :)
You are correct. There's virtually no pressure in the return line. Look at the factory clamps.
Some vehicles come new with a plastic inline filter.

That would suck. I put in a new box from Lares and used their filter also. Nice metal case, the hose will pop off before it would burst.
I guess that someone could disconnect the return line and watch how much fluid comes out of the hose.
No matter what, if the fluid contacts the exhaust manifold or header I would not want to be around that.

At that point it's called a power steering fluid flush. Never a bad idea.

I've used ATF in the junker cars but THIS stuff in the red car with the Borgeson:

the one you posted the link for is labeled for use with transmissions and power steering. I think it should be ok.

The filter shown by Icetech is the same one I'm using too. Along with the cooler. The filter is specifically for either power steering, on the return side, or automatic transmission, also on the return side. Units have magnets in them too. Some of the oe's used these filters on trans applications when there were destructive issues. I remember Subaru using them in the early 90's on Legacy's. Factory service bulletin. My cooler is behind the grille so it gets better airflow. Also for those not knowing, p/s return hose is not the same as fuel hose. Different psi and fluid ratings.

Get ready for sticker shock. The OEM reproduction was listed at $400 from Glen Ray radiators.
It may be an excellent exact reproduction of the originals but holy cow....you're going to pay for it.
Sadly, this is the one. (From Glen Ray)
...though it fits so nice!

It just isn't in my nature to default to the most expensive choice....nor is it to accept the cheapest one.
The 440 Source has some quality stuff but I also see some unbelievably cheap prices on roller lifters, rocker arm sets and starters. I can't help but think they are or questionable quality being that cheap.

Did you ever get your Borgeson box and pump sorted? I love the feel of the Borgeson box, until yesterday when it started acting up at low speeds after a 3hr drive.

I have new Borgeson box and a not so old Saginaw pump and reservoir installed in 2015 with only 1000 miles on it.
Also have PS pump cooler mounted under the battery tray.
Miles on the new Borgeson box is 400 miles with no issues until yesterday.
Using Bergman recommended Drive brand PS fluid.
No hissing or strange sounds.
Steering felt great and no low speed issues until yesterday after a 140 mile 3 hr highway drive at the off ramp. Low speed assist down to almost zero. Get on the throttle and steering back to normal. Slow down for a turn and zero assist again.
Got home and no leaks or loss of fluid anywhere.

Fluid got too hot. Is this also a sign that my pump is shot or should I just change the fluid?
Does the Bergman pump have anything special that makes it last longer? (I see another poster above that uses the Bergman PS pump and is observing very high pump temperatures...)

I misspoke. I dropped a lifter and don’t have my engine back together yet. My pump has three shims in it when I took it apart a while back, sorry I don’t know what I was thinking.Im going to take one shim out to get more pressure and hopefully that takes care of it without any extra hissing sound.
