Build Thread- 64 Fury Convertible

Getting the last of the little bit of welding buttoned up. We put the fender and hood back on. And everything is lining up pretty good. Next is the Painter is coming over to look at it together, and then we’ll remove Hood and fenders to send body off get firewall, inner fenders , Dash and steering column painted. I also cleaned a little surface rust that was forming where we have touched the Car a lot.cleaned those spots off and Re-ospho'd.

Nice. Taking care of all the background repairs is going to save you some huge money. What's left is still going to be expensive, just not as bad.

Fortunately, I already have my engine built, My transmission is already Built, I have a driveshaft to cut. I have a new Gas tank already. I have a ton of the small stuff new or excellent condition from Carlisle etc etc, that I have been Procuring, Including Tailights, Grill, And trim. I have bought a ton of seals, door rubbers, Door trim, And windlace, My Front seats are new, Back seat has been recovered to match interior pieces have been procured, New Carpet, Will order New Top. I have a good Boot cover ( I may dye it, or replace later ). I already got my Bumpers rechromed. My wheels and tires are new. I know I still have a Ton of little stuff to buy, and the actual Painting Cost. I also am going to Run a Holley Sniper that I still have to buy....

Fantastic work!
So, I have been Thrashing on my Car doing all the metal work for about 16 months now, Not including the Summer was spent building the Motor and transmission. I have used this site for research, looking at tons of original cars, and folks restorations, to see how everything was originally etc etc.
Some members have been VERY supportive including dmoore (Dave), and Dave6t4, Ckessel etc etc, But I just now realized that the car that I saw for two years at Carlisle that I took a TON of photos of actually belongs to member Dmoore !!! I don't know how I missed that.....Dave, Your Car is Beautiful !! its literally perfect !! It definitely deserved the Awards it got at Carlisle !! I was the Guy laying on the ground looking under it and taking photos from every angle making sure I didn't touch it !!
And you said our work was nice !! that's a hell of a compliment coming from someone whose car is as nice as yours !!!

So you were the guy laying on the ground snapping away? Ha! Thank you Earl for the kind comments. Hard to believe that car was painted over 30 years ago. Lucky for me the 2nd owner started with a rust free example with a few door dings. That doesn't normally happen does it?? Having never owned one of these I dived in head first after my purchase to find factory literature, old car magazine ads and the like to make the car as close to original as possible. It wasn't easy as you can guess but worth all the trouble! The car is better today than last time you saw it. Although you wouldn't know it at first glance. It's all about details with me, always has been. I commend you and your body man on pushing forward and saving another American classic for future generations. Other commitments will keep me away from Carlisle this year but I will be here to help any way I can! Dave

Earl I know your not there yet but do you have a nice set of these upper belt moldings?

Earl I am going to donate mine to your restoration. Please PM me your shipping address.

You are a good man, Dave. That is what this forum is all about; helping out when we can. It makes it all worthwhile, despite some of the other BS that goes on here.

Earl I am going to donate mine to your restoration. Please PM me your shipping address.
Wow Dave, Thats Awesome !! I appreciate that !! These pieces are very prevalent on the car and will look great !!I'm going to Polish all my Stainless, and hope to farm out the anodized pieces to be stripped, Painted, and polished. I have gotten some better Chrome pieces already like tailights etc, The other pieces that are chrome will be rechromed if the budget allows.( Garage cost are killing me now )..otherwise cleaned and polished as best as possible.

I've been helped on this site more times than I can count. Thought it was time to pay a lil forward. PM that address and I will package them up and get em in the mail. I think you will like them. Dave

Just a little contribution towards your goal Earl!

BIG DAY !!! 64 is out to the PAINT SHOP to get the firewall, inner fenders, Dash, steering column etc etc painted !! Terry had his hip replacement surgery this week, so he is recuperating, so I'm working on my own, and visiting him at the same time. He's funny, His house is 50 yards up the hill from shop, and he can tell what tools I'm using by their sound.... Worked on Cleaning the inside of the fenders preparing to Ospho, treat,& undercoat. Filled some holes in the steering column, I have been Degreasing, Cleaning, polishing in a tumbler, then treating every nut and Bolt on this car…. One tagged bag at a time so I can keep everything straight !! I can’t afford all new nuts and bolts. Will probably splurge on Stainless fender and hood hinge bolts… other than that, reusing everything that I can…I’m also cleaning and polishing all the chrome that I can save so I don’t have to spend a fortune re chroming…. I’ve already rechromed bumpers. Trying to polish everything else I can !! Car has Chrome, stainless, chrome over pot metal, and anodized aluminum….. tons of stuff to polish….I'm trying to make everything as nice and shiney as the pieces Dave Gave me !!! Its occuring to me, I have to start prepping these pieces, so whatever has to go out, has time to get done and get back....

Anytime you can reuse existing original fasteners is a good thing. Reproductions are expensive and more often than not incorrect.

Worked on refreshing my instrument cluster today. I had two of them to get parts from. The front of mine had been painted silver poorly at some point. The other one I bought at Carlisle had a very nice front facia, so I used it and the guts from mine. I also painted the inner panel black, cleaned everything inside and out,and put the tach in the fourth spot inside the dash.the actual heater switch is out being rebuilt by Anthony Powell in Texas.
