Cleaning the Intake Manifold.

I'm a fan of high temp silicone. Put your short end seals on, add a dollop on top in the corners and then mate the sides up. The overflow from your dollops can be splooged onto the ends of the intake gaskets with a fingertip to hold them in place while you position the manifold. I've never had one leak ... yet. :D
 
The rigid grey RTV along the front and back a little thicker than the cork gaskets that don't get used..... seal the bolts with non hardening gasket maker on the upper part of the thread and a small amount of never seize in the hole or you will get leaks

Starting a thread on each part would be a little confusing try starting a single thread with a bunch of pics so to doesn't seem so scattered... there is a ton of upgrading tips from carbs to electrical I would surf around the site for old threads on here also. Some are really good find one close to your car and motor and see what they did over the past 10 years so you can get an idea of where you want to go and you will find problems they had that you might have with out knowing they were there.. there is a ton of stuff I would do before and after cleaning up my intake as well as others or you might be pulling it off to do you're cam and lifters... how did the heads check out rings and bore ? If you're doing you're motor you will want to do the entire motor otherwise all the work on the intake won't matter chasing problems around and around. Do you want a car you can drive and enjoy or something you are constantly have to mess around with.
 
Haven't touch the heads yet. I can get them rebuilt for $75ea. Gonna check the timing chain slack next and clean the gas tank. Engine is in the car still, dont have a garage or lift/stand. :-(
 
Make sure you clean the tank at a radiator shop. I have done them with pressure washers and chains acetone.... the pickup and sender are usually better to get a new one and the seal for the filler. It may not leak now. Hopefully you have a slab to work on and some sheet plastic to cover you're motor. I would pressure wash everything to keep dirt to a minimum set up a place where you can work on it for a while out of the weather. You can do a lot with the block in the car. If you having checked out for a body's only it's worth it there real 360 happy there. I have a storage unit I rent for around $120 a month it's tight but I can work with it.

A few 4x8 sheets of plywood on a level surface goes a long way out side. And a green house made from pvc pipe and thick milled plastic just to keep the weather off
