Cold Case radiator… Am I missing something?

Coordinated with them about which set up to use. actually through this site. Radiator is beautiful. looks great! however I go to put the fan shroud on with the electric fan and there is no way it is going to fit and not be jammed up against the water pump pulley. Am I missing something?

I have the same radiator, but two smaller fans from cold case and the water pump pulley

is between them with plenty of room, your radiator sit awfully low for some reason

Regarding the distance from the core support to the top tank - my radiator is original and there is half an inch between the core support metal and the edge of the top tank.
I went out and checked my GTX.
That Cold Case radiator is pretty close to right when compared to stock - based on your pic.
But the main point here is they said the fan will fit and it does not - from other comments I see no reason they will not resolve the problem.

I agree with the above post that your radiator is sitting way to low. If it was up where it is supposed to be, I wonder if your fan would then clear?

I’ll go back and look at that when I get home. The other thing I noticed about yours and mine is on the top the grooves on yours run across the top of the radiator and on mine it’s flat. Maybe we have different radiators?

I bought the radiator only with the intention of running a clutch fan and shroud and that didn’t work out so I called Cold Case and order the dual fan set up, but it was much more expensive than buying the radiator, electric fans and shroud together, I got the impression on the phone that they just grabbed some price out of the air, it was around $300 plus shipping, maybe they will show you some mercy. I have a 69 Dart with a 512 and on that car I have the fans in front of the radiator pushing, but pushers are less efficient so you need larger CFM fans.

My radiator is 26 inches wide, it’s in a 66 Coronet 500, I forget the model number. I used the provided mounting holes but the radiator was too high and the hood hit the cap so I moved it down 1/2 inch.

WOW! I really feel sorry for you folks having these heating issues. I feel that if the block and radiator are clean and the engine is fairly stock, and a whole


bunch of other modifications have not been done, then factory should be good.
If Chrysler had these problems i the 50`s 60`s 70`s I think complaints would have bankrupted them.
We have been driven to shows in the USA in high heat, never overheated with stock components. I have commented on this before at other times in other posts. Humbly submitted.

I had a 1968 Charger, I bought it in 1970 with 40k miles on it, It would get up above 210 on a hot day and if you were stuck in traffic it was borderline ready to overheat, it was a 383 4 barrel,it was my daily driver and I still remember stuck in traffic and sweating out the engine temperature, many of the cars using stock brass radiators now have high efficiency cores with more tubes added since the old days.

Thanks. I just went through doing a lot of adjusting to put the made somewhere else heater core in the heater box. They said they couldn’t get a correct copper core any longer.

I'm sorry to say but to me, that looks like crap and is totally unacceptable and would not accept that in my car, what's cold case have to say about it? Selling inferior parts that don't fit, cause problems, etc. and leave it to the customer to figure out? Sorry you have to deal with it!

I have some thoughts on modifying it. I mean if it’s been this long and they haven’t done anything maybe I can modify it fix the problem and sell the idea to them.

I wouldn't sell them on anything by the way they've treated you! You should have a hard, serious talk with Joey about this and who he sponsors on his boards!!! Why does Joey have a sponsor like this that's selling crap and not standing behind their product? This isn't fair to the members of the board but only to line Joey's pockets! Thank you, I have reached out to them. I let them know what the issues are. A contact from cold case has been asking me dimensions and for pictures of my original radiator. Also the part numbers that I ordered from them which were provided to me by one of their employees. We’ll see what happens. I’m sure they will come through and correct this.

I have reached out to the staff members on FBBO. I have explained what has happened and that there is a history of this happening to other members. I have asked them why they would continue to have a sponsor like this. I have not really gotten any feedback. I got one message that said even though there are a lot of complaints there are some people who have had positive experiences. Kind of feels like the people who have had issues don’t really matter. it’s a matter of money/sponsorship for the site I would gladly be open to discussing what that amount is and provide it if it’s reasonable.

I have not seen a single CCase installer that didn't say that they had to modify one hole to fit the rad support bolt location and it has been suggested more than once for them to fix their jig... nadda..

So maybe we can all agree right now that until this is fixed if someone asks about what is the best radiator we let them know that cold case has not been working well for us.

I'm really sorry you are having this issue. For you and for selfish reasons. We certainly aren't thrilled about paying all those sponsorship fees to have one single topic ruin our reputation because of a handful of members that pile on. I'm sure they are trying to support you but in the big picture, it doesn't help. It makes you more angry. It makes viewers confused.

We have plenty of B body owners that have Cold Case kits successfully installed. That being said, since your car never came with an electric fan/shroud kit, there's a number of variables that can affect the clearance. The first one is that our radiator is thicker than the original purposely to give you better cooling capacity. We could make an aluminum radiator that matches the OEM radiator of your car but then it wouldn't cool as well. So when you buy an aluminum radiator, the #1 goal is normally to have the absolute best cooling. Sometimes the trade off is clearance issues which are especially prevalent on the 22" B body radiator because a single fan is optimum for cooling but not good for clearance. We could have made a 2 fan kit that would have solved any clearance issues but the fans would be so small that they would do a terrible job of pulling air. So the trade off is optimum cooling vs optimum fitment.

We've worked with the A-body forum members (or should I say they've worked with us) and because of their help, we've gotten some really nice OEM fit products for those guys. We've done the same with some members here but mopars are tricky. There are many different motor options and they seem to all change each year.

Our goal is to get every year and every combination right but it doesn't happen overnight. If you just want to vent here, there's not much we can do. I guess in the heat of the moment, I can't blame you. I've caught myself doing this on occasion too. However, If you want us to help you solve the problem, then you should call our office and we can work our way through this. We REALLY would like to get it right.
