Diagnose Front End Problems Using Tire Tread Temperature?

I just finished playing around with a line and jack stands, making measurements over and over again moving things around a little each time. My consensus shows the passenger front tire toed in about 1/4" and the drivers tire toed in about 1/16". Later this week I intend on trying to measure the camber at home. Then off to a shop to verify my figures. Then replace more front end parts (I have a complete kit from PST in a box).
first foto is passenger tire (way out of whack according to me)
second foto is driver tire (right on the money according to me)
third foto is one of the set-ups I experimented with.

Thats the way to check indeed, just make sure the wire is barely touching the forward cheek of the rear tire even if that means it is not touching the front tire at all. (think rear is wider then front)
Then measure from the front tire front and rear cheek at the wire and make sure that both sides are same, with the front cheek measurement is 1/16" - 1/8" more then the rear cheek.
This means both wheels will have a slight toe in.
