Engine bored 30 thousands over

Oval pistons are more believable.
Not oval but elliptical, but which dimension is the pin axis? Locating rings of the correct dimension may be hard to find of the correct axis. If necessary, the bore could be broached rather than honed to cleanup.....just a thought.......

Here's a great read. They touched lightly on ring issues but it's a heart warming story. It's good to the end

And, now, after all this, we have to get into correct spelling ? Liter.... unless, you're a foreigner. ( First one with the appropriate response gets special recognition. )
as an American I recognize cubic inches, not metric equivalents

*puts hand up* the foreigners actually started the word litre, which came from the Greek litron ? And then the Americans changed the spelling to displace themselves from said foreigners?

As a Canadian born before the late 70s I have to do both. It's always converting in the cpu.
We still call the big jug a 66

I still prefer miles per gallon rather than 'so many litres per 100km' ....what a weird way to express economy of an ICE vehicle.

I do however prefer metric when measuring distance at work. I understand feet & inches, but when you start calculating bigger numbers....metric is so much easier.

Last time I went 30 over I got stopped and handed a speeding ticket. :poke:
Hope it was in MPH! :D

But.....what would be the new displacement if the engine had a SQUARE cylinder bore??? That way if one side was scuffed or damaged it could be salvaged. But, I could not find anyone making square pistons.....even hyperutectic alloys........just a curiosity question.......that way calculations would be easier because everyone seems to get confused about using PI or 3.14159......(its a non-repeating decimal number).......????....
BOB RENTON .
A 'square' engine would be one that has the same bore as it's stroke......didn't you know that!!!

THANK YOU for the article....very interesting and informative......NOW...how about the ROTARY ENGINE...what ever happened to it. GM had some development time in it plus Curtis-Wright "Wankel" ...is it still viable or has it been totally eclipsed into obscurity?? Just curious......

I don't know about GMs connection but looks like mazda is concentrating on a come back.
Mazda 'very close' to a successful twin-rotor rotary engine

I was at our local 1/8th mile track a while back and there was a guy that had an 80’s toyota Tercel with a turbo charged Mazda rotary. It was ear piercing noisy but that little SOB was running mid to lower 5’s Absolutely crazy sounding
