And that's just the tip of the iceberg! He has all kinds of blown fuel engines on display with placards that say when he built them. I have more pics of those I can add. I probably have a couple of hundred pics from the museum. And I know he also has a ton of other engines and stuff in his buildings that aren't on display. Don Garlits is a true gearhead. He even has a restored Hemi powered air raid siren in the museum.

Nice pics of the Hot Wheels cars! I still have 2 original toy Hot Wheels cars - one Snake and one Mongoose.

WOW!!! Great pictures. Glad you guys are taking the time to share. Keep it up!

A few more from me

OK, I'll add a few. I have to start off with a few pics from back in the day of my dad's car. We all also know it as Stahl's '66 Hemi A/Stocker. My dad owned it between '70 and '76 or so. He ran it quite regularly in & around the Pittsburgh area at Pittsburgh Int'l Dragway, Keystone, New Bethlehem, etc. I loosely remember it, but I was really young back then. I remember a few events here & there.

In & about the same time he was also in partners on an altered with another racer. The first shot is when they were running an injected 383 w/ Max wedge heads. Later they upgraded to Hemi power.

WHat great pictures and story. Is that your Dad ear tuning the Hemi?

Thanks for the pics and story

Ma Snart

Yeah, that's him. There seem to be several pics in our albums of him listening to that big Hemi sucking air through the stacks. I like that pic because you can clearly see the Hemi including the old school mechanical rev limiter. He always tells me how crude that car was; but it was light. Said you had to be careful of where you stepped into it so you didn't go through the floor. Most of this was going on in the days where you made darned near everything you needed. The experimented with the altered a lot. Sometimes it ran with rear suspension, sometimes without. Usually it had a clutchflite. He said that they were pretty happy running along with the injected 383. For some reason stahl's car was down at one point and they yanked the hemi and put it in the altered. In his words "that's when we knew we were on to something". Obviously! Here's one of my favs:

So there's a little more to the story and many smaller stories that go along with those days. The most significant thing that came out of those days was my name. Once he committed to the hemi's he was committed. So much so that he named me that. Yep, my bon-a-fide, birth certificate, drivers license middle name is Hemi. He wanted it to be my first name but my mom wouldn't have it. There was a big blowout at the church when the priest refused to baptize me as Hemi but in the end cooler heads prevailed. Later he tried to name my sister Liberty claiming that it was because she was born on flag day but really because of his affinity for Liberty gears in the car. He lost that round, too.

Hemicbx, you posted this picture and i couldn't help but notice, what looks like a red GTX towing a tandem axle trailer with another GTX on it. That must have been exciting going down the road, especially slowing down!

Love all these "nostalgia" pics! Unfortunately i'm a product of the less glorious 80's.

Hemicbx - The stories continue to get more interesting

Thing I like about your dad listening to the Hemi is the **** eating grin he has on his face. He looks like he is one hell of a good time guy to be around!

I always loved the Wild Willy Winged Express photos, he was one of my all time favorite when going with my father to west coast tracks in the 60's as a youngster...
