After breaking a bunch of 50 year old blocks, I've finally decided to jump ship on stock block 440's.
I've collected all the parts I need to build a 450 CI 392 based gen 3 hemi.
It's going to be N/A, Dominator carb'd 727 and hopefully much more reliable.
I can't complain about the motor I'm running now.
It's basically the same motor I ran in my GTX years ago.
Currently running 10.40 @129 with 23 degrees total timing in it.
It's been a best of 9.96@ 136 @ 35*.
I want to keep this around for my kids Coronet.
He wants to build a twin turbo gen 3 for it but the 440 is free...
I'm going to rewire the Cuda over the winter and hopefully have the hemi ready to go in the spring.

From what I've read you need to run the newer ''Eagle Heads"
for the Gen 3's Hemis, allegedly far superior, in dyno testing

Cnc ported Apache heads...

No doubt they are built better than the old stuff. It will be lighter also. Good luck with everything

The intake looks like a tunnel ram.....oh man, sure wish I wasn't so old and/or had a ton more money!! Guess I can't complain too much because she's GONE!! :D

My brother built a Gen3 for my nephew, but he went fuel injected with it and the Holley Terminator set up. This went into my old Daytona, full chassis car - Dang nephew, first day out with it, first day in a big car from his juniors and went 8 rounds for the win and a nice check. The car repeats and I mean repeats!

My brother has 500 inch big block stuff in his 65, and his dragster and he just told me he is selling it all and going Gen 3 with everything including the full chassis 66 he is finishing up for my niece. Said they can make so much power, parts are actually easier to find for them, and not any more expensive.....

Everything for the motor I'm building was available.
The exceptions were the Mahle pistons and cam which were both custom pieces and I had them in a month.
I can't wait to get this thing going...

Rotating assembly is together. Just measured for pushrods.
Got my motor plate back from waterjetting yesterday.
A few holes to drill and that will be done.

Looks like some good progress Bob :thumbsup:

can't wait for the videos at the track NODRAMA

Wiring is mostly finished. I have some tidying up to do.

The 7.4L Hemi is ready to go onto the run stand.
Next will be fitting everything into the chassis and getting it lined up.
I'm hoping to hear this thing run next week sometime...

Wiring scrabbles my brain.....plus being shade blind doesn't help any.

Seeing your wiring photo made my eye twitch. I know that struggle.
