HawkRod is doing the 2023 Hot Rod Power Tour!

I wondering how many long haulers do the route. Sort of the point IMO. When we got there I couldn’t believe how many long haulers were there already. This morning no one is moving at this hotel yet. Rolling out in 5!

I took the wife and family on a trip out west last summer, the wife and I enjoyed it so much that I told her once the kids are grown her and I are doing it in the Charger. We left Ohio across the northern states to the Badlands, then to Black hills, Yellowstone, Tetons, Bear lake, Bryce canyon, Zion Canyon, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde plus other little adventures along the way... What a memorable trip!

I can only imagine how much doing it in a classic would add to the experience.

Like @69L48Z27 said, it was slow going. But we left from the official start at 8:30ish.

I also have to apologize to @Charles Cook
When we got there it was so late that another member was just getting ready to leave. We rushed over and caught him and then I got caught up in getting "validated" and such. I just had a "senior moment" and missed contacting Mike. I'm bummed out because it would have been fun to meet. By the time I got back to my phone, Mike had left. Sorry - I screwed up. :(

Meeting me at Carlisle next month will more than make up for it.

Yes flat straight roads are interesting to us from south west Pa.

Yeah, doing a cross country trip in a classic car adds a dimension where people love to interact with you and you are "cool" everywhere you go.
Highly recommended!

My life will then be complete!

Today we left early and got to the venue early. We drove the official tour route the second half of the drive and that worked out nicely.
Here are some pics of some cars that caught my eye:

I know this is an F'n Camaro, but it was so clean and well done...

You can't be in a hurry because everyone wants to talk. Not a bad thing. Slow down and enjoy !

That blown hemi with the hat - is that EFI? I cannot imagine trying to get the metering right with it if it isnt..... at least when I had an injected motor in my Daytona the barrel valve was either at idle or full throttle. I suppose things can/have come a ways in the past 15 years. But EFI certainly would make that easier.

Some cool drag racing at zMax raceway.

And if course, still more cool cars to discover!

Looks like an effective, efficiently operating cooling system is mandatory. I plan on doing this soon, God willin and the crick don't rise.
Yes, that is the biggest thing, make sure your engine doesn’t overheat. So many cars go out that way
100% There were lots of casualties from sitting in very hot weather and crawling forward a foot at a time for an hour! This is definitely a TEST for how well your car cools.

We had a really nice drive today with tons of people lining the route and cheering the Power Tour cars on. I missed getting pictures of the big crowds, but here are a couple to get a feeling for the route.

Today I decided to throw caution to the wind and I put my car on the chassis dyno.
20230616_124330.jpg

20230616_125157.jpg

This was as driven. No modifications whatsoever from normal driving.
It made 465 horsepower and 584 lb ft of torque. Dyno guy said you can assume 15% loss for a manual, and 20% for an automatic. That means I made about 547 horsepower. If torque follows the same formula (not sure here?) then I'm at about 697 lb foot of torque.

I know my throttle body is a bit too small in size, and I am running through a full size 2.5" exhaust with (fairly) quiet, full size mufflers. So I'm sure I am restricting the engine a bit here. I could chase a few more horsepower, but I'm happy with that. This is a cruiser with A/C, not a race car.

Best of all, i didn't tear out my driveshaft!

Some fun stuff too:

Nice Hawk. Horsepower seems about right for full exhaust. Torque seems a bit high, but nobody would argue with you if you took them for a ride:rofl:
