If I read the arsenal stamp correctly, Izawa Jyuko, it would be a type 99, I don't think the Izawa Jyuko arsenal manufactured any type 38's. Don't hold out, pop some pictures up of your sporterized type 38 even if it's not done.Without actually seeing it in person, it is definitely an Arisaka but it also could be a Type 38 which is a 6.5MM. The Chrysanthemum stamp is the symbol for the Japanese monarchy. I have the Type 39 that I am "sporterizing" as I had to replace the barrel for being shot out with a 6.5mm carbine size in the same caliber. They make an excellent hunting/deer rifle and are a blast to shoot. Ammo is tough to come by and NORMA is about the only ammo manufacturer that have them. You can reload using off the shelf items and Midway USA and Brownell's will carry those items. Large Rifle Primers are a Bear right now to find but I did stock up on them when I found them Federal is the recommended primer. Mine is still a work in progress and I also have an extra Bolt if you would be interested??? PM me and we can discuss that. A neat read on the Type 99 for ya also. I will dig out my book on the serial numbers and stamping's and and try and get you an accurate make and model. They are rare and when found, can be a blast to shoot...cr8crshr/Bill
