How can I test the oil pressure idiot light

If I'm not mistaken you can do that. Make sure the ignition is on. It should work if you don't have other wiring issues.

When I got my Coronet the light was dead, I took a test light that beeps, one end to the oil pressure switch and the other to battery positive. Light came on with the beep, a couple of cranks and the light turned off. Easy diagnostic and was a load off my mind. Since then I've added a proper warning light to go with my DIY gauge cluster.

HI,
I just need to check that the light is working... While I was driving the motor didn't get noisy like it lost oil pressure, but the light came on the went out and came on again and went out, now it does not come on with the key in the on position with motor not running ... I'm hoping its just the switch or the wire as it is a very lose connection

HI,
can I just pull the wire off the sender and ground it to see if the light lights up?
Yes, ground the circuit with the key on engine off (KOEO). The oil lamp should illuminate. If it does, based on the information provided, I would suspect that the oil pressure switch is faulty.

HI,
Ok.. I went to test the light and I pulled the wire off the sender. and went to push a wire into the connection and the wire broke off. So I'm guessing that was the problem.. HOPING easy cheap fix...
