How much lift can stock 452 valve springs take?

Tried the search, did not find an answer. Like the title states, how much lift can the stock springs on the 452 BB heads take? Thanks

Your major issue is coil bind. At max lift, you should have about 0.060" to 0.080" between coils. I would think that a max lift should be somewhere around 0.500" to 0.525" on a stock spring.

Not much. Those are even less than factory HP springs and have about 80 lbs of seat pressure. I wouldn't consider them for anything other than stock.

I would not run over a .410 with a stock 452 spring. 69 HP ran about .450

Those old springs are worn out anyway. Trash them before they break. New valve springs are cheap insurance.

Get new springs.The old springs are good to use to break in a new cam.

Thanks for the info. My motor only has 21k on it and I was wanting to put in a cam without removing the heads.

You don't have to remove the heads to change springs. Air up the Cylinder with a compression gauge hose. Get the correct tool and change them. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ac...nd-Equipment/Valve-Spring-Compressor/_/N-274h
