Saw this in the local CL and I was confused (lol, not that ever happens). Is the 516 any good for performance or a boat anchor?

Should be more like 50 bucks for 516's but with some work, they can run good on a 440 or any big block.

915’s flow better even if the 516’s have bigger valves.

I read from past threads here. That 516s arent very good. Keep in mind. I have a pair being reguided. All to find out the exhaust valves are no longer avail. So they put a 8 bigger exhaust valves in. More flow. To me I didnt care .I Just want my car on the road soon.

With some porting they will flow as good to a little better than a stock 915. They are more prone to cracking than the 1 year only 915, but will still be a good head on 383 or 440 mild build. You probably won't have any problems. I would run them and worth more than the above stated 50 bucks.

That’s what I have on my 383 with the bigger valves and they have been completely redone. Very minor porting and gasket matched.

I agree but 915's ain't exactly cheap like 516's are....

I thought the 915's were more than 1 year only....at least with the larger valves. The way I understand it, they also came with the smaller exhaust valves too.....?

I could be wrong but I understood that they were a 1967 only but with that being said they were used on more than the Coronet R/T which is why there are a lot of them available.

I don't think you will be disappointed......

Yes, some 915's with 160 exhaust valves. I have 2 bare sets of those.

67 only for the big valves on the 915's according to my very old Mopar Bible.....but they were cast with the small valves too. Have seen only one pair of 915's with the small valves and that surprised me because I didn't know about them.

All 67 440's got them and the C body 440 got the smaller valve version as well as a few 383's.

I once bought a set of professionally fully ported 915’s out of Texas..big valves and just beautiful…. They went to Watertown, NY with my Dodge 63 440.

thank you. The guides were worn out. The car was driven little. Thats the down fall of low milage cars.
Well....probably due to long oil changes more than low mileage. Most that didn't drive much didn't do oil changes thinking that it didn't need it. Also back then, oil sucked imo so unless you know what the maintenance schedule was, it's hard to attribute the root cause of worn guides. Heck, worn guides could be from lousy factory machining. IE, they were loose to start with....

My original 67 Satellite which was bought new, kept spitting out valve guide seals and wasn't corrected until they came out with the umbrella seal. It had 516 heads. Ofcourse my driving habits had a lot to do with the problem.
