Hey everyone, I was hoping some of you could help me with this..

I have a 65 coronet 440 4dr, with a 440RB, 727, 8 3/4. recently I have been noticing a large fluctuation in my oil pressure. My normal oil pressure is around 65psi, but recently have been noticing that it will jump to 80-85psi while driving and will drop to 30-35 when at a idle, I should also mention that unless I two foot the brake and the gas to keep rpms up at a stop light it will completely fall and want to stall... now this doesn't happen all the time either.

I first noticed this problem after I put on a one wire 140 amp power master alternator and new belts. I was on a long road trip for a car show cruising at 60 mph at 3000rpms. ( I have 410 gears) when the oil pressure jumped up to 85 and then wanted to stall at a stoplight with oil pressure dropping to 20-25psi in this instance..
where should I start...?

thanks

Recently change the oil and use a different one? might be silly but what oil filter are you using? Also dying at idle sounds like loss of vacuum. or fuel issue. I ask about oil filters because the fram version s terrible and will restrict the flow. Different viscosity will bump up or down oil pressure.

If you're getting an oil pressure reading of any sort at least your pump is working, have you replaced the sender yet? maybe fried or bad. thinking you have two different issues here.

I agree with bigmanjbmopar. I think they are two separate issues but I am thinking the oil pressure is not a problem. My 340 runs 70-75 lbs on highway all day long (354 gears)even on a 95 degree day. Idle while in gear is 25-30 lbs. The 80-85 lbs might be a little high but remember you are running 410 gears at 3000 rpm so that oil pressure may not really be out of line because you are turning the pump faster. The stalling may be a carb issue.
