Hi all,
My son and I have a 70 4 door Aussie Valiant that we drag a bit, at the moment we are setting up for our Australian version of your Drag Week, ours is Drag Challenge.
the event will be end of Jan over 5 race days with over 1000 miles of street in it. We last done the event in 2019 and finished 2nd in class just, so looking for a bit more.
The class we run is Small 9" Radial Naturally Aspirated Street registered.
Car is 3650 lb and runs 1.40 60', 110 mph 660' and 9.82 136 mph. 528 wedge, 12.6-1 KB, Molnar crank, 360 cfm indy sr's, 280 108 with about 700 lift solid roller with Huges 1.6 rockers, matched Indy tunnel with 2 new 950 APD carbs.
Gearbox is kitted 727 with a good TCE 5000 convertor, 3.5 gears, it flashes to 5000 rpm off the foot shifting at about 6800 and traps at 7000. All this is fresh.
Can anyone see some improvement to be had ? We Know there is a few guys running in 70's and would love to keep up with them.
Will put pics up next post.

Cheers

I would experiment with total timing to see if
it would tolerate a bit more. Carb tuning and
maybe where cam is put in at. Also shift points.

Do you have a racepak or any data acquisition
system on board?

Have done the timing many times, likes 37 , we are locked at that.
Last time out we picked up 1 mph with some extra jet, we have an Innovate dual 02 sensor gauge sitting around 13-1 most of the track. This is as highly tech as we get

More gear and a looser converter will get you there easy.

OK Doug you have my attention. Can you elaborate ? So more gear as in go to 3.7 from 3.5 ? Converter go to 5500 from 5000 ?
We did have 3.7’s in it but was trapping at nearly 7400 so went with 3.5.
Give us some numbers please Doug.

No way it should be at [email protected] with a 3.55. I'm assuming it has a 275 MT radial? i'm guessing 89"cicumference. They have close to zero growth. That puts it over 17% slip. Part of that is not enough gearas it's probably still accellerating well past the 1/4 mile finish. More gear will actually lessen the slip. However the converter itself may not be very effecient. What RPM does it fall back to on the shift? I would've never believed my 15-1 580" motor would need a 6200 converter to run its best.

Doug we are only on a 235/60/15 so more like 26” or 81.5 circumference

Ok that makes more sense. Then the gear is close. I'd bet there is something to gain in the converter though.
Doug
Ok so do you think I talk to the converter shop about something with more flash ? Like 5500-5800 maybe ?

Converter guys are smarter than me. But I'd bet 5800-6000. Someone there can make you the proper piece.
