Hello guys...

today I disassambled my front end... so far so good. The torison bars went out fast... everything was real easy

But..... when I pressed out the old LCA bushing, ( was an easy work too.. ) I found something strange, the bushing is completly out... but it looks like if there is a second "outer sleve"...that now is stil sitting in the LCA
is that correct ?? Or must I remove this "Sleeve lookin thing " also..?

Perhaps someone has a foto from a LCA without LCA busing.... ?

Perhaps someone has a good advise for me.... ??

Thank you

Juergen

The LCA has a outer metal bushing that must be cut out(unless going to polys) if replacement is rubber. Next is the rubber part or what is left of it. Then a metal sleeve on the inside that is still attached to stub shaft, by most likely. Install goes by way of pressing on the stub shaft to new bushing against metal plate on a press, then pressing on the bushing metal outer ring into the LCA. I used to use a FE ford front crankshaft spacer, that was ground down for clearance to press the outer shell into the LCA. You can not press against the rubber(it moves) at all. Polys make the process much different, some like them and some do not. If polys then remove rubber and leave both metal sleeves in place.

What year and car is this. My answer only works on the older cars, below 74 maybe.

hard to tell by pics, but it looks like you have the new bushings.look to see if the new bushings will start in the arm.if the old sleeve is still in it,they will but up to each other and you should see that the new bushing wont go in.amx364 is correct on the assembly steps.

Looks like you are working on a '66 Coronet? In my '62 Dart service manual it says to use a large tap to thread into the outer shell of the LCA bushing and then press it out. I bought a used tap off eBay and plan to go that route, rather than cutting it out and risking damaging the LCA.

Glad to hear it all went easy, collecting the parts now to rebuild my front end. Just received .92 diameter Mopar Performance torsion bars, and PST is sending everything else soon.

.... thanks for your answers The "thing" is... I removed the old bushing completly. inner /rubber other sleeve... But there is still "something" inside the LCA that looks like an "OLDER SLEEVE"... the material is soft like tin... or so. Perhaps long ago someone changed the LCA bushings "The very easy way !

I will make some more...and hopefuly better pics...

Greetings Juergen

I see what your referring too, it's not a second sleeve but part of the LCA stamping . Turn the adjuster arm and the inside sleeve ( as your referring too) will move, and the outer sleeve ( as you call it) will not move as it's part of the stamping.

So, the part that Juergen is referring to is just some extra beef on the LCA, right. A lip, a place for the outer shell of the bushing to hold on to. Otherwise it would only be the thickness of the LCA's stamped steel and bend all to Hell when you tried to press the bushing in. How do you make that outer sleeve go away? Drive it out? Sawzall?

I haven't had mine apart yet, but will be doing a rebush before long so I like to read up in advance...you know how it is.

Yep, correct it's a lip stamped in the LCA. I never had to remove mine as I used poly bushings . Various ways to remove the shell, press it out or chisel and hammer to collapse it then pull it out etc...

Thanks to all of you.. helped a lot ! Now I know what was going on.... long ago someone tried to remove the shell/sleeve the hard way..

He ..or She ? hammered like the devil on the inner sleeve...and now it looks like "sleeve" lol..
Tomorrow I will Install the LCA ... I will let you know... how it worked!

Thank you,and greetings from Germany
