Little update - pushrods are in and rockers are adjusted. Intake is on and I'm just about ready to pick it up and drop her in. My alternator wasn't a factory-type unit, so I decided to get a correct style Powermaster. It's a 1 wire, so it should help clean up the wiring a bit, but mostly I bought it for the easier pulley alignment and just to get it done right.

Here's a quick pick as we were mocking up the alternator (he used a core that was too gnarly for the pic lol). The chrome brackets will be primed and painted black once I get it home - we just left it for the mockup and so we could drill that second bolt hole to account for the shorter deck height.

One note on poor quality of the 440 source heads - the alternator bolt hole was significantly skewed. Might cause some alignment issues, we'll know when the alternator shows up.





Here's a nifty air cleaner nut that I found on Fleebay for like $12 plus ship. It's a billet aluminum piece that was pretty slick in natural aluminum, but I shot it with a little body color to match the car. Looks pretty sweet, huh?

INMYO if you run it to 6200 - 6500 RPM it will live well. Big cam, big port radical motors will make power & live for a while at high RPM. If you keep your RPM at about 6200 It will last a very long time.

That plaque looks fantastic. love the polished aluminum, but yeah I can see that M painted blue for sure.

Yeah you guys are right, even a motorhome engine can live at 5800. I'll definitely be upping the ante to 6200 or so.

Powermaster has them available with single and dual pulleys.

Checkout the listing, basically, if the part number ends in a 1, it's a single pulley.

Sure, it was $160 or $165 (can't quite remember) with free shipping at summit.

Just went through my paperwork - since I'm billing this as a budget build, seems like I should prove it. So here's a more detailed budget... spent a bit more than I figured... don't tell the wife!

Basically I broke it down to 3 things - stuff that was really necessary, stuff I just wanted and transmission.

So I have $4328 into the motor, less $550 from parting out the 413 (so far) gives me $3778 into the motor out of pocket.

Plus the $993 into the tranny mostly in vb and converter.

All in all, I'd say I held close to the budget but I'm glad I didn't cheap out the VB, converter, or by running the old oil pump, off brand alternator, used headers and old OEM distributor. Plus the aluminum water pump with billet accessories is pretty sweet and the silver ceramic coated headers will really pop.

Not sure, as luck would have it, the next 2 weeks I'll be working 7 days and 3 nights a week. I dropped the motor in place yesterday and I'm hoping tonight I can knock a lot of the connections out. I'm hoping for later this week, early next week but who knows.

Looks like we will have almost twin cars! Mine is a GTX but same colors and hood. Good move on the headers, mine is going to be broke in on the dyno so that'll save me switching them out twice. Looking good there! BTW my motor is IQ52's trick flows on 440 just a few threads below here.
