First off, I wish the best to all in FL. I stayed for Katrina, on the east boundary of Metairie, 3 blocks from Lake Pontchartrain. That is about 1.5 miles from the west boundary of New Orleans, aka the 17th Street canal. That was one of the MAJOR levee breach sites. The canal levee breached on the New Orleans side. I went and saw it the morning after Katrina passed. Surreal....like a small river POURING through the breach. Gas mains broken underwater, on fire, looked like the Styx Equinox album cover, except instead of ice the fire was burning on the surface of the water. Too many experiences to document here. I got lucky at my house. Missed flooding the main elevation by 1/4" So close the carpet padding in a small area pulled a little water in like a sponge. 3 lower than slab rooms flooded, but spared the sheetrock. Once the sheetrock is wet, whole different story. My wife was stuck working in a state hospital in downtown New Orleans, for days and days, with NO communication.
On another note, the Heineken Looter guy video/picture was on local TV. You know, the "peeps" gots ta have dem essentials...
I had no idea how infamous he had become! Those were some REALLY funny memes!
