good afternoon, i recently welded in a new one piece AMD floor into my 67 GTX.... my question is how do i prep this new floor with the black coating from AMD ... i would like to put down epoxy primer so how much sanding do i need to do and what grit sandpaper? i really want the epoxy to adhere .do i need to remove all the coating first?... any help from you guys is always appreciated.. thanks ..Rich

scuff it up with 220 or 320..... even a red scotch pad..... I assume you're talking the underside? I wouldn't waste too much epoxy on the inside, just cover the welds and bare metal...... I scratch bare metal by hand with 100 grit or similar. I don't use a D A on metal. it tends to "polish"

thanks for the reply, i will be doing epoxy on both sides, overkill ? probably...so am i just basically trying to scuff and remove the shine before epoxy?

See above...good advice. The key thing is to have the surface rough, clean and 100% oil/grease free. In a perfect world, you'd want it all down to bare metal (especially on the bottom) and treat any little nooks & crannies for surface rust where you can't get to it, then the epoxy. One coat of paint is only as strong as the paint layer underneath it, but factory paint is stuck on there really, really good.
