Push button tranny problem

My 62 Dodge Dart Wagons push buttons are not staying put. I’ve had to reattach them twice now after popping out of their forked holders. My question is it possible to glue them into place to prevent it from happening?

It looks like I can. However, I’m concerned that there may be movement required to permit the buttons to slide in and out.

remove the buttons. Then bend the forked holders together slightly with a pair of needle nose pliers. The button should snap into the metal holder.
