This setup has been a pain. Yes, I used setup bearings. Yes everything is torqued. My backlash is .010 finally and the pics are the samples with paint. Would any of our diff experts please comment on either ...yes this pattern is fine or hell no....it needs to be this or that different?

I'm thinking you want to move the pinion in towards ring, more shim.
Which case is it?

Add .003 closer pinion depth shim. The drive side pattern is centered but needs a bit more depth.

Don't worry too much about the coast side just yet. You might tighten up the backlash to .008 next time and see if the patterns come towards center a little. Looks like the Motive Gear I did this spring. Couldn't get the patterns to be the same on both sides so just concentrated on centering the drive side.

I'm not sure I have another shim in that thickness range. I'm using crush eliminator spacer so the micrometer is helping in duplicating the spacing etched on the base of the pinion gear.

.010" ? it will only increase with running it, 3Xs more than I would shoot for

Alrighty folks, ..I've redone the pinion depth and taken new patch markings. What do you think? Acceptable? The impressions have moved a bit more centered on the teeth. The coast and drive sides look better front to back I think. (but I'm no expert!) ha

I guess when I reply to specific comments from specific people, it doesn't post that way? My last comment was for Fran. I guess I should preface each statement by who commented first that I'm repkying to. Rookie me!
