Can an older brass radiator be safely sandblasted to remove old paint? I suspect the tanks probably can, would media blasting be better? Can the cooling fins also be blasted without damaging them? Have an old Blackstone radiator I need to strip and repaint.

No, I would not media blast a radiator. Paint stripper and a power washer would be better but even with a power washer you'll have to be careful with the fins.

Thanks everyone. Pretty much what I was afraid of. I've never blast cleaned anything myself but sort of figured it would not work on the fins. I'll probably try the paint stripper and hose route and see how that works out.

If you're dead set on blasting soda blasting would probably be less aggressive than sand blasting... But I second the hot tank idea.
