Square back alternator field wire size ?

My square back alternator field wires need replaced. I found Standard Motor parts S79 connector kit $7.99...but it says the wires are 18 gauge. Is that lare enough, will it be a problem. My alternator is a 65amp unit.

IIRC 18ga should suffice for the field wires. Your FSM wiring diagram will confirm.

All they are are sense wires, the carry very little current.

Always size for the worst, but you're talking field wires, so that's only like 4 or 5 amps IDB, even with a bigger alternator.
Given the opportunity, I would check them and see whats there amp-wise, before you rewire (prolly too late I know).
