'Thing' inside carb

(reposting from the main body, I'm new at this...)

I am rebuilding the center carb on my 440 6-pack. In taking it apart I found this thing on the metering body. It's plastic and covers about 10% of the inlet. I can't find a reference to it in any shop manual.

Any ideas?

yes it should be there
it is to prevent fuel sloshing out of the fuel vent
There are better ones but this is a cheap Holley one
