Is there supposed to be a rubber grommet where the throttle cable passes through the firewall? Anyone got pics? Does the clip go on first to hold the cable in place then the grommet?
If I remember right you mount the bracket with the foam gasket. Push the throttle cable through from the engine side and install the retaining clip inside. No rubber grommets that I recall, just the flange on the cable seals against the foam.
There is a Rubber grommet in that bracket. Then the cables come in from engine side and clip retains the cable. It’s very hard to do by yourself with the bracket in the car. Remove the bracket and installed the cable and clip then install the bracket again. not easy with headers on the hot rod Coronet two bolts up next to cable hole, Two nuts below that. Just an FYI. The rubber grommet in the bracket is nothing more than an insulator. It does not seal anything to the firewall.
No. You need the rubber piece to take up all the slop that would be present without it. The plug and grommet are available. https://www.megapartsusa.com/proddetail.php?prod=149-TCP looks like you still have the rubber piece. Here is the clip as well. https://www.megapartsusa.com/proddetail.php?prod=101-TB7155
Oh gotcha. So if I'm understanding it correctly. The clip goes on first, then the grommet gets pushed in there?
Actually it seals the hole the cable mounts in. Not only would the cable be loose without the grommet but fumes would come inside the car. Then the white foam seals the bracket to the firewall. Both are needed to have it sealed.
