To all our Hawaii members running from fire..

how about screw Ukraine and help Hawaii

Hawaii can help themselves.

I hope all our people here are safe & not affected
I saw a newer guy in the welcome wagon that lives on the west side of Maui
hope all is well, I think he lost a car 66-67 Charger he was looking at or bought
(not sure & don't remember)

I talked with a neighbor of mine (Ca F&G Warden Cpt.)
pretty resourceful type guy, he went to Maui for vacation
him his wife & 2 young kids, got there early Mon. morning,
supposed to be there for 10 days
the fire started IIRC Tuesday
Welcome to Maui

I was a lil' concerned after I couldn't get in touch with them
I tried to contact him for a couple of days
see if I could do anything from here, reservations or flights etc.

I just heard from him/his wife yesterday afternoon
actually after trying to contact him to no avail
cell lines were not working, kept getting a recording
until early yesterday I guess
got a text back to my neighbor Tom who texted them,
who lives across the street, big wig the works for Cal Fire
He said;
Darren says they are safe they were on the south side
of the Island in Wahinia, something like that (? spell)
they're all doing well as can be expected, not really affected too much...
Loves being in Hawaii other than the fire...

I guess some of it is being taken pretty chill, the people taken it well
as can be expected, they are amazing people

Really sad they lost almost the whole village of Lahina,
the west side port was alleged to be on fire/water was on fire from fuel
& a crapload of businesses & housing lost
some old imported huge tree that was supposed to be a landmark
from the 1800s
was the talk of the news pundits, that stupid shits' on TV
lots more to be concerned about, like humans' life & limb, animals, people pets

We live with fire danger a lot up here, I can relate to it of sorts
seems Yosemite burn every dang year, usually human/tourists or arson started
my biggest fear living here is fire, earthquakes, winds & snow etc.
Those are all mere nuisances in comparison...

The last I saw 1st it was 6 Tues., then like 36 Thurs., now or yesterday 50
were claimed to be missing, or not in/able to contact or poss. dead,
I heard last evening of the local news here, it could be wrong, less or more
until they know for certain

I figured they'd clear/fly or boat tourists to Oahu or something
I guess they didn't need too, in some cases...

Again I hope all is well, looks like its out for the most part/contained...

I known native Hawaiians are accustomed to fire due to volcanic activities. But this is different. More like what California experiences. And Canada is experiencing today.

I've been to Maui. It's typically a wet climate. But the right conditions hit this year. And with that unusually high wind? Ouch. Plus there's not alot of brick and cement in their housing construction. I'm only guessing some rebuild changes to zoning. As well as some material changes will be in discussions.

I'm thinking maybe another trip in the next couple years? They could use my dumbass spending money locally there.

Disaster Relief Plane Flies Over Hawaii On Way To Ukraine

U.S. — According to sources, a plane carrying emergency supplies and $10 Billion in disaster relief flew over the Hawaiian island of Maui on its way to Ukraine.

Island residents were at first delighted to see the disaster relief plane on the horizon until they saw it adjust its course to avoid the heavy smoke. "Where are you going?! Help us!" said a mother of four who had become homeless overnight when the fires took her home.

Upon seeing the chaos below, the aircraft's pilot reportedly muttered to himself. "Hmm, I wonder why we aren't going there. Oh well! Ukraine, here we come!"

The crew aboard the disaster relief plane reportedly took exciting photos of the Hawaiian destruction that they agree will make for a great addition to their disaster scrapbook.

At publishing time, the pilot had been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for expertly navigating the plane around the pillar of smoke that rose up from the smoldering ruins of Maui like a furnace, saving the aircraft from being covered in soot.
That sounds like fake news from the orange Vader Soon to have a suite to match .

Very sad to see all this unfold, prayers for those who died and all the folks there.
beautiful area , my wife and i stayed 7 days in that area back in 2000, spent time in the harbor area, court house, area, docks, ect.
Had a rental car and seen alot of the island.

It's common in Hawaii to use helecopters with buckets of sea water to put out brush fires. I'm heading back to Hawaii from the mainland today. I live on oahu, but have friends and family affected in Maui.
My friend's son lives on that Island. He said they are running C130's filled with supplies from the surrounding islands.
