Windshied Drains Into Interior

I installed the glass in my Charger today. The Wife helped me set the glass.
First off, I ran a thin bead of the 3M8509 non hardening bedding compound along the flange all the way around. The gasket was pressed into place, then Wifey and I placed the windshield into the opening. I started from the top like the FSM shows.
The LH corner was fitted first, followed by the RH side. I had her press the gasket outward as I pried the glass into the gasket from the outside. I did manage to get a 3 inch tear in the outer flange at the bottom middle. I was tempted to just call it a failure and pull the glass back out, then order a new gasket. With the thought that I had little to lose, I pressed on. I squirted the urethane 3M 8609 into the glass channel after finishing the lock strip. I'll do a leak test tomorrow. If all is well, the trim goes back on.

good luck , when i tested mine after for leaks , i think i waited 1 week , too nervous

Eagle1 installed the rear window Saturday. When they pulled the new AMD windshield out of the box they noticed it was shattered. There was a lot of room for the glass to move inside the box since it wasn't packed very well. Summit was good about replacing it at no charge.

That sucks! Proper packing with a steel part is important...with GLASS you'd hope that they would have done far better than that!

I did a leak test today......it was a GREAT SUCCESS !
How come a "Carpenter" that is an auto enthusiast did a better job than a guy that does this stuff every day?? The trim is back on and the excess goo has been cleaned up. All the stories about this urethane stuff being hard to clean from your hands...PFFfffTT!! That was easy! Have you ever tried to clean commercial grade subfloor glue off? Holy crap...that stuff is horrible. You can scrub with Ajax, use a pumice stone or Scotch Brites, steel wool...That stuff literally has to WEAR off of your skin.

urethane comes of your hands with some loose nut we have, PL glue in tube impossible to come off

Quick question, I've had several windshields installed by glass professionals (these were on first generation mustangs that use gaskets just like mopars) they always installed the gasket on the glass , wrapped the rope around the other lip of the gasket, had one guy on the inside pulling the rope and another guy on the outside putting pressure on the glass until they went all around. From what I read in this post the gasket is installed in the frame with the bedding compound and then the glass is installed into the other recess. Is that correct? Is bedding compound installed in the lip also before the glass is put in the groove? What about the 2 large openings in the bottom of the channel on my 67 coronet, are these just loaded with bedding compound and the gasket covers these openings?

Yes to your first question. I cannot answer #2.

I had a leak on my Duster that took awhile to find. It was the screw hole for the windshield squirter plumbing that I had removed. Water came in through the hole.
