Tank came today and I hooked the steering wheel to the steering gear, finally. Working on stitching the hood skin together.

Okay, so, I cut up the front bumper today. well, one side anyway. I sliced it towards the outside half of the turn signal hole and then took a wedge out on both top and bottom so I could tilt the outer end down and also towards the rear. I needed it to line up better with the fender noses where I swept them back. Now I also sliced off the end face and will end up needing to cut a weird shaped wedge to get the outer rear edge to match up with the fender reveal contour for the bumper end. So far so good. I will try to tack up the bigger hunk tomorrow and that will allow me to play with the end cap positioning.

This hotrod shop Coronet is what i'm after as far as the bumpers go. After closer examination of this one I see that what they did was to cut out the front of the fender curve and lose the indented bodyline where the bumper end wraps around. They flattened the curve so the end cap can sit up under the fender face instead of hanging out to the side. I'm glad I revisited this picture because I am having the same issue they must have had with the end cap of the bumper lining up with that reveal line. This will make it a bunch easier.

So I worked out the passenger side bumper end. How did I do? I think it looks like the car in the pics above.

I can always adjust the brackets to snug it up a bit more during final assembly. Even if I have to drill out the mounting bracket holes some to give me more movement. No big deal.

After further consideration I think I will cut lose that end cap and swing it out about an inch. It curves too much into the inside of the fender. Looks off. It needs to point towards the back of the car, not towards the brake caliper....lol. Add a sliver of steel in a wedge shape to the top and bottom to swing it out like opening a door.

Best laid plans..….I ended up slicing the other end apart and then the Overhead Door guy came to install our new garage doors. So I got interested in the center plate cutout, I sliced the plate mount section away and cleaned up the opening. I then redrilled the plate mount plastic insert holes and filed them into squares so the plastic nuts would go in with the screws. And then I baked an apple pie. lol.

Just finished welding up the bumper ends and grinding them to match the contour of the fender curves. Pics after lunch!

Forgot to post after lunch because I fell asleep. lol. So, here they are. I cut out about an inch on either end and worked the edges to tilt to the rear the end piece. If you look closely you will see the turn signal light holes are shorter. The bumper ends now set just inside of the fender face and the end profiles will be finessed to match exactly the fender curves when completed. I Need to hunt down the fender support rods for each side and put them on before I go any further with that. I also need to weld in the plates to delete the turn signals.

My wife said she came back from town and I was sound asleep in my easy chair, with headphones on, listening to "Smoke on the Water"...…..and snoring and drooling. The dog was curled up in HIS bed next to my chair and he was dreaming and his feet were kicking around and he was growling....man, I was really zonked out apparently.:rofl::rolleyes:
