Today i finished everything under the hood.

Everthing has been adjusted and checked for leaks after i finshed the installation. I got to say that the throttle response with the very same ignition timing is alot better than the OEM intake and i was pretty speechless when i floored the pedal the first time. Unfortunally i couldn´t go for a ride because it was pooring from the sky. But watch and listen yourself.

Worked on the hood and the scoop this week. Removed all the old paint (and lots of bondo ) from the hood with a wire brush and got all the wholes i don´t need welded shut. Cleaned the edges and attached a grill to the scoop. Now i only need to wait for some missing parts before the guy from the body shop will get the hood to finish it.

The project has been on a hold for some time now since snow and winter kicked in over here.

I rethought the whole idea of the scoop and decided to dump the idea of adding it to the hood.

I know it won´t be cheap but i´ll go the air grabber way.

I won this auction and the guy is cutting it up and sending the sheetmetal towards me.

I also ordered all the parts to make it fully functional. They should arrive over here in the next few weeks. Once i´m back home from my business trip i´ll start working on the hood again.

Great post thanks. I bought one of these last year. Came with the 6 pack and single 4bbl tops. I was planning on installing a hidden FI set up on it. I'm going to install one of these blow out valves as I hear these intakes have a history of blowing the lids if the engine backfires?

Yes, they have... Some lids are prone to cracking due to backfiring. The STR-14-4 (square bore single 4bbl) and inline STR-14-8 (square bore dual 4bbl) lids are most sensitive to cracking, mainly due to the fact that these lids do not have strengthening ribs in critical areas like the STR-14-45 (Dominator) lid has. On the inline STR-14-8 you can drill a hole right into the center of the lid and plug it with a bolt and nut (stress relieving by reduction of material). The STR-14-6 (3x2bbl) lid has sufficient material cast everywhere.

On a sidenote, the factory staggered STR-14-8 lid has a different base altogether and the other aforementioned lids do not fit this base. Of course, you can always make your own top plate(s) out of some 1/2" thick aluminium flat stock...:icon_mrgreen:

Started to work on this project again and i got to say that i comes along nicely now. The hood will be ready for paint thursday and the car should be up´n running again next week.

I serviced all the carbs and changed the main jets of the center ones since it was running a little lean the last time i started and drove it.

And since i´m working on this project again i also decided to upgrade my entire ignition system to MSD.
