What would be a fair price, or what did it cost you. to do this work. Professionals opinions too please.
!964 Dodge 440 All body work done, all trim removed and primerd with plenty of epoxy primer

Cost to:
Block sand , maybe do a few places with spot putty
Probably primer again and final block sand
Paint with Urathane single stage color --8 coats
All material paid for and not included in cost.
Wet sand
buff
clean buff residue.

I would like to get a lot of feedback please. I will explain later..Thanks..............................MO

I like single stage for certain non metallic colors...black, white, some darker yellows. 8 coats? That's a lot.
A fast shop could have that done over a week, not incl evaporation/cure time (depending on the materials used). 40-50 hrs @ 80-100 bucks an hr puts it in the $3500-$5000 range for labor alone. Sound about right?

Just had my 72 Satellite painted with minor body work for $3500. Pics available in gallery. Shows also what we started with.

Eight coats? I would quote you high just based on a request like that. Basic paint job with minimal repair 4k

I gave $6K to a garage guy to do my 69 RR. I did all the rust patch welding and some finishing of that area then dropped it off. He stripped it, did body work, primer, block, repeat, paint, cut and buff. Car came out good. And I'm in CA where things aren't cheap. For your job maybe $3-5K??

I requested plenty of paint so scratches could be buffed out. I didn't expect 8 coats, but he had a lot of paint. It is non mettalic red. First two coats was out of the can. the next coats were mixed with clear to get good depth.
More comments please....................................MO

I had a (make/model deleted) wagon done in 2007 in Plum Crazy. Minimal body work required and paid $2,500 ... it was done at a VERY small back alley shop and he did a fantastic job. Not 8 coats of paint though.

I paid $3,000 for a three stage pearl white with black metallic stripes accented by thin red pinstripes. Dropped the car off with all trim/bumpers/glass/hardware/interior removed and body stripped to bare metal. It needed minimal/moderate body work for 1/2 square foot of rust repair on lower quarter and a few dents/dings.

I think it depends a lot on what part of the country you live in and how hungry the local shops are for work. I don't see decent paint jobs around here for much less that 5 or 6K. But the shops around here have a lot of money tied up in the equipment to comply with EPA regs etc. If you can take the car around to a couple of shops, let them look at it, and give you an estimate you'll have a better idea of what's reasonable.

Is it a color change? Are they doing jams? Engine bay? Inside the trunk? More work=more money!

I paid $5,300 for this and I threw in $1,200 for the paint, hardner & clear coat. 4 1/2 years later I pulled it out of shop and I'm prepping for filing it in small claims court
