Bullseye!.........'71 Dodge Dart, right at home @ FBBO

That sounds like your moving right along Will, looks real good!

Got some time on the Dodge today......

Prepped the donor roof, and also prepped the inner roof frame. Cleaned it down to all bare metal, sprayed Zinc Weld-Thru primer along all the surfaces to be welded to, then sprayed some PPG DP40 Epoxy Primer over the rest of the frame. Roof brace, I didn't any decent panel adhesive to apply between that and the skin, so I went with some run of the mill Liquid Nails in the caulk gun.

Little tough to put on alone, but the skin is on. Fit like a glove. After calling it a night, I'm about 3/4 the way through welding up all the spot welds.

Hey Prop . . . so much for the "special" sunroof option . . . but the work is amazing ( as always ) and the top looks great in place ! ! Are we done yet ? ! ? ! ?

Looking good Will. Reminds me of this summer, we had a huge damaging hail storm, my boss at work has a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, the insurance companies fix was to cut the roof off to repair it. He ended up going with a dent-less repair shop instead.

You Will, fear no hail storm!

Nice work as always.

Doctor... At this stage of the operation I believe you are ready for the u know whats....

Hehehehe......Thanks Kahn! Yes, the sun roof and planetarium roof are now in the past, but I'm still grateful I got to experience the most elusive of all Mopar unconventional options for a short stint. Star gazing, and the feel of the open road will never be the same lol!

LOL....... Man, that sounds pretty extreme for some hail damage. I could see changing some panel's, like a hood or a fender....because of ease, but a roof? Wow!

LOL! You know........as I pulled the 15 or so panel vise grips I own off the tool board, and started clamping them on, it become very clear that the 15 should have been about 60. At that very moment I immediately thought of you, and how disappointed you probably would have been at my meager collection of clamps. Hehehehe!

Yesterday was a bit of a "Right tool for the job" Fail, with a definite lack of panel vise grips. Punishment was the use of #10 Sheetmetal screws. I was a bit frustrated, nearing the end of my 75 screw or so option, when the wife came out and said in all seriousness "I can't believe they just screwed roof's on back then...that looks so tacky!" I just told her I was so surprised & stunned the old roof didn't blow off over the years, being all the original screws must have either rotted off or were missing. Close call folks!!!

Hehehe...never the less, I told the wife to add panel vise grips to my X-mas list, and I was adding the prettiest blonde wig I could find to her's.

NO on the blonde wig Will! I let my wife where one one night and haven't had a conversation i could understand since, never again.... he he..... My dinner over and need to go but i couldn't resist this one, me sorry ;( not. lol

LOL Ron! THAT is some of the funniest **** I have read on this board to date!

Will, I can't believe your wife actually said that. But, we did have a close call with that "comfortable" t-shirt. LMAO!!!!! Looks good with the roof back on. Too bad you couldn't have made it a retractable hard top, then tell her it was a 1 of 1 factory option for her car. When I get home for Christmas, I've got some things I got to send your way for you and the wife.

first i checked out this thread........ nice job on the roof, lots of prep on a job like that....... showed it to the wife, she thinks you are nuts also ( about the roof thing, she didnt see the wig comment )

Heheheheeee! No Doubt Kahn! One of these days i'm going to step up my game and beat that guy down to Toolmart, for the 2 for 1 vise grip sale.

You know Roger, I gotta say my wife is typically smarter than me, but when she has a "dumb moment", it's not a matter of rocking the boat....It's an all out flipping the sucker over. LOL She was just having one of those days. And the T-Shirt...........oh yeah, I still got it! Hmmmm hardtop-drop-top. Dodge Dart Skyliner! We'll need to add the continental kit of course. Safe travels Roger, I got a little something for you and the misses as well!

Looks good Prop. I enjoy reading your posts and learning from you.

Thanks showard, You the same! Glad you enjoy.

Bawwhahahaha! My lord Ron......you've been an all out comic relief on FBBO here lately. You been sneaking sips from the cough medicine jar or something..lol

Thanks eldubb! Yeah, lotta prep.....not a whole lot of fun. Obviously you know the drill as well. Especially with that E-Body Jig Saw Puzzle you put back together. Ah well, It will be fun driving it without it raining in the car anyways. I think most us car guys are pretty nuts to be doing this. That, or just glutton's for punishment. Haven't figured which one it is yet. Probably both. Ok....probably leaning towards the nuts part. LOL

Thanks for the comments guys. Glad to be able to shoot the breeze with you fella's after making some racket and smoke in the garage for a while. Got the rest of the spot welds all welded in for the roof skin. I got about 50% of all the spot welds knocked backed down and smoothed over as well. On to knocking out the rest in the drip rail gutters, then on to stripping the roof.

-Take Care!

Hey Will, I think your wife and mine might be related. She just reminded me of when I was talking to her on the phone when she was coming back from taking her son to work. As she was walking to go into the house (mind you, she is talking to me on her cell phone the whole time), she tells me "i guess I better get my cell phone out of the Durango so I can have an alarm to get up in the morning" I didn't say a word until she realized that she had the phone up to her ear, then I just busted a gut out laughing.

LOL, Oh boy, this could lead to three related lady's! here enters my wife, Love her as the lady she is, i get forgetful more then she, sometimes :)

Mr prop, that is why you are the man we expect no less out of you, other than another supreme masterpiece, super duper job sir!

Thanks for the excellent how to on the roof Prop and for sharing the joke about the sheet metal screws ... priceless

Funny.... When I used to watch the New Yankee Workshop old Norm would say you can never have enough clamps. That hold true here as well... Go pull a Paul and clear the shelf at Harbor Freight :happy11:

really nice work! I am banging away at my wife,s 72 swinger as I write this. I think we are going to leave the vinyl off so I may have the trim you need if you want it. I read that your wife is considering blue well so is mine she wants a midnight blue metallic it has a b5 interior as it was baby blue when built. I had to cut the front off and do rails on hers it will need quarters as well. I have all the parts just short on time!DSC04508.jpgDSC04645.jpg

I still try to buy more clamps when i can, you never seem to have enough and if i had to do a roof, i would be in short supply as it is i like the self tapping screws, they help some times in a better way..
Charger 360, Thats a nice one ya got there!

Will what do you plan on putting in the engine bay?
