@^%$ new gas tank STILL leaks!

As far as paint, It's not a bad idea.you live in a humid area,,dampness and rust go hand in hand.We did my brother's 65 using Krylon satin silver about 6 years ago.Still looks great..He lives in PA. Just a thought.

My next tank will be stainless. I bought a Spectra for the Road Runner. And I think they make a stainless one for a hundred more IIRC.
Do you have the ring on yet. I've always been able to use a brass drift.
But my last one kept spring back. I used a piece of square stock as a wrench to get it over the bumps. Sealed good. Not an OEM as far as I know.

The duplicator steel wheel paint looks great on the tanks. Got it from tractor supply

I put a spectra premium tank into my 73 charger, and it came with a lock ring and gasket. At the same time I also ordered a new fuel sending unit. So far, I have had no leaks from the tank, except for when I forgot to tighten the hose clamp.

Lucky you...I sent him a PM a week ago, and never even got a reply.
Mitch is apparently a busy fella. I notice he's advertising on several different forums/websites. Must be a handful to keep track of.
Who knows? Maybe he's nervous about shipping that far away?

I just resealed my new sender to my new tank yesterday. What a PITA. Now, I just have to get it to the gas station and cross my fingers that it worked this time with the Mopar locking ring I got from Moparmitch. I've used a $12 hand pump I got from Amazon to empty the tank (twice) into 5 gallon cans. I just hooked it up to the outlet on the sending unit and it pulled the tank almost dry. I've got 5/16" lines, but the hose would likely fit 3/8" as it's not snug on my lines.

I PM'd him this morning. It did get lost in the shuffle.

No leaks or problems with a Spectra tank installed on my 72 Dart 5 years ago, didn't have any leaks, but I don't recall if I kept the old o-ring or lockdown.
I was a bit disappointed it had cross-hatch stiffening molded in, but I admit it's probably stronger for that. The 72 is no show car.

Yeah, that hand pumping crap gets old quick. I bought one from Advance and only managed about 2/3 of what was in the tank. It NEVER started siphoning on its' own, probably because it had to go a little uphill out of the filler neck of the tank.
I like your idea of using the pickup a lot better, makes sense. *smacks forehead*

Did you use any sort of sealant on your new gasket?

I figured. It happens. You get vibes from folks as to whether or not they have integrity and I think Mitch is OK.
'Course, I'll think that even more so when mine shows up in the mail.

This one probably is a Spectra, I just can't remember/find any records of it.
Stiffening molded in? Sounds like its' fiberglass or something?

No, it had ribs molded in that crossed in a squared pattern, original had stiffening just side-to-side.

Giving some thought to actually painting the tank.
Somebody PLEASE talk me out of it!
I shot mine with a 'clear' satin from Lowe's. That was over 4yrs ago. Still looks like a brand new bare metal tank.

I put a thin smear of Permatex copper ('cause that's what I had that hadn't gone bad) on the ridge on the tank that seals the gasket and on the back side of the sending unit. I'm letting it set for a couple of days before rolling the dice and going to the gas station.

The lock ring and gasket are still available new from Mopar. Used one last year when I put and new tank in the Charger last year.

That's what I do also, After I clean it with Parts Cleaner. Works Great !
BTW Still have about 10 of these left.

Well, as you can see from the pics, I think mine's a tad ugly to shoot clear now. Would have been fine when brand new, I suppose.
