fuel pump fittings

I bought a Carter M6903 fuel pump and I'm not sure how to plumb it properly. I believe it has 1/4" NPT threads. The inlet (at the bottom?) would likely just be a barbed fitting for the hose from the supply 5/16" fuel line, but what about the line to the carb? The outlet does not have anything to seat a flare onto if a hard line is connected and I didn't really want to use a hose there. Any ideas?

If you can find a male fitting with npt threads on one end and a female inverted flare on the other should work. The npt threads should seal at the pump. Oreillys auto and napa around here have a lot of fittings, otherwise just a barb fitting with a short section of rubber fuel injection line to attach to a metal line
 
Did you get any paperwork with the pump stating what thread size you have? My point is that make absolutely sure that it's 1/4 npt. My pump has 1/2-20 threads which aren't tapered, looks similar but not the same. I would say though that most pumps have tapered pipe threads.
 
No paperwork but i saw the specs on a few websites that say the threads are npt. I checked it with a few fittings i have kicking around.
After three stores, i could not find 1/4 npt to flare for 5/16 or 3/8. Pita! The search continues
 
I don't know what shipping to Canada would be but I got all my fittings through Summit. Are there any farm equipment or large truck dealers close? Most have a selection of odd fittings.
 
The same fitting with a hard 3/8" steel line to tee came on my 66 Hemi. The carb were stolen they bent the 3/8 tube. took me 3 tries before I made a decent one.
 
Sometimes I've found the fittings I need at the local hardware store instead of the parts store. Go figure.

Tried there too but they don't carry flared type fittings. Napa and a bigger box store had some fittings but not what I need. They both use the same supplier based on the packaging and stock as far as I can tell. That's the problem... i even had to order in breakin oil as no one around here stocks it except a performance outlet. They want $18 a quart!
I know of a few tractor suppliers so maybe they'll have them.
 
Same pump, I needed a brass 90* fitting...found it at home depot. And used parts house already made steel lines, for all my to the carbs lines.
Any port in the storm!
 
For sure try the tractor/equipment places. Also see if anyone in the area carries hydraulic parts like rams, filters, lines etc. Inverted flare does not get used as much as it used to which may be why they are harder to find for you. If you are not in an agriculture area, you may venture out to one as the older tractors may be a source. Newer stuff seems to use more o-ring style stuff. Maybe try marine outlets too.
 
Surprised if you couldn't find one at a NAPA store?
Maybe they could order one? Better yet find a 90 degree one.
 
Napa Canada is not napa USA! I tried to get a replacement rubber flap for the heater control valve. Napa USA has them for $10 but won't ship to Canada. Napa Canada can't find a cross in their system and can't order it from the US stores. Insane.

I went to another napa store that doesn't have the prepackaged fittings and the guy couldn't find a combo that would work. Crazy!
 
When the store does not carry them, you will have to buy the quantity that the manufacture sells them in. Manufactures generally don't sell singles. And the stores have no use for the excess items if they have never sold them before. It was always fun when I worked at dealers and someone needs a couple of trim screws or other fasteners and the manufacture only sold them in quantities of 50 or more. I guess you will have to keep looking unless you can get someone to wrap the fittings up in a burkha and sneak them in.
